Root [MetroPCS/CDMA] NFL Mobile Fail

So, the NFL season is almost upon us, so close I can almost taste it. Like I've done in seasons past, I decided to install the NFL app

....only to get a message saying....

"Sorry but NFL Mobile can not run on this device. An unmodified version of Android operating system is required ".

The issue...is that my phone is rooted.

I gotta say I'm disappointed about this as it was a great app. I can see why carriers have issue with root...but why would NFL Enterprises care that I decided to root my phone? I mean...my banking app doesn't seem to mind!

What do you think?

i would check to see if its checking if ur rooted if so try using ota root keeper and unroot for a min and see if it lets u run it if so then u know what to do. also might be checking build prop or could be checking ur phone status as normal or modified. i would try that xpoze mod to make status normal then try to open that app again.

It is definitely checking for rootz. People have started leaving comments about it on the NFL Mobile playstore page.

A part of me says to just keep the app uninstalled...to tell them that i disapprove...cause i can live without it. If enough people get the root message and decide to uninstall like me...hopefully they get the hint and reverse course.

On the other hand...there's something i really like about subverting their STUPID rootchecker with some kind of a workaround.

A lot of tv providers are also putting root restriction on their apps as well. I know the Time Warner Cable app is one of them and it also blocks you even if you aren't rooted and just have usb debugging on.

I guess they think we will just crack their apps for free service at a level above what we are supposed to be getting. I can't help, but think there must be a better way to do that though.

It's a cat and mouse game. Very much like bootloaders and gaining root. Devs find a root method, it's plugged with an OTA. So on and so forth.

Only difference, is working around an app like that is getting something that requires payment, for free. It's not really cool to do. I know it happens all the time, but we'd rather not see it around here.

I also loved the NFL app, gotta haz my Stillers , but I like root more. So no NFL app for me either.

Its ok, espn score center worked great for me last year when I had problems with the nfl app. It pretty much does the exact same thing.

true...BUT...i can understand why Time Warner Cable app and apps like it would want to restrict rootz. The NFL app however is only showing info. Info i can get...as someone else stated...from a different app or by firing up the browser (on the same rooted phone btw) and searching. i can go to NFL.com for creez sake. its gonna be ESPNs app for me.....

cracking the app shouldn't be an issue at all...what are we cracking it for? Does the new version let you change the outcome of the game with rootz? (that would be cool) Can we contact the players and coaches directly with rootz? (again, cool) can we bet on games now with the app? No....it makes no sense...

1. its a free app.

2. it only shows free info that you can get a number of different ways.

I may have figured out a way to be rooted and still use the app.....this is what I did:

I was on stock MF2 unmodified ...installed NFL mobile, opened it and set it up....then I rooted the phone via Odin.

I'm not sure if backing up the app and restoring it on a custom rom will stick, I haven't tried it.

Just thought I'd share this.

the New NFL App that has no check installed, it will work on rooted Android devices.

the app is called nfl_mod_nocheck.apk

google it and it will allow you to download it and install and it works perfect.
