Google and facebook each have three apps in the top ten

Statista's chart below tracks the 10 most frequently used smartphone apps in the world, based on percentage of smartphone users that have used the app in the past month.

That is presumably "apps whose use can be observed on the internet", which isn't the same as "all apps".

Wonder how they measure the denominator of that fraction?

I'm rubbish at smartphones, I only use 3 out of those 10 apps.

Whatsapp - Daily
Youtube - 3 to 5 times a week
Instagram - Twice a month (maybe)

I wonder if it's because Google have tied it in to so many things now? You need a G+ account to leave ratings for apps on Play so I wonder if that counts as a "use"

Google+ is on my list of disabled system apps.

Mind you, so is Twitter. And Facebook. And Instagram.

In fact I'm clearly even more rubbish than El Pres, because Maps is the only one of those I ever use - YouTube perhaps once or twice a year, and I don't even have the others installed.

Got you beat, use none of them. By choice. Don't need them. Google dropped Google Sky, and SkEye got it. I do most of my stuff on the computer. Easier to type.

I am so uncool. The only one from the list that I use is Google Maps and I have been considering choosing a competitor.

unless they give some sort of information about how they're measuring this stuff.. then there results are pretty meaningless. Anyone can make a list of apps and declare them to be the most popular.

Google+ (rarely though)
Twitter(once a month, lol)
and FB Messenger.
