Picking up the incredible in stores

Does anyone know the status of picking up the phone in stores? I'm going to be on vacation the 27th-2nd, and would love to pick it up while I'm away.. Would I be able to get it at any verizon store on the 29th? and does anyone know if I could pre-order from the store?

Edit:

to answer my first part:

* DROID Incredible will be available for pre-order online at www.verizonwireless.com beginning on April 19 and it will be in Verizon Wireless Communications Stores on April 29. Pricing will be $199.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate with a new two-year customer agreement. Customers will receive the rebate in the form of a debit card; upon receipt, customers may use the card as cash anywhere debit cards are accepted.

Edit2:
Verizon brick and mortar stores will not do any "pre-order" but they do seem to be making a calling list for themselves to call people and remind them when the phones come in.

I have no desire to pre-order because it's such a friggin hassle and big whoop if someone else gets it before me.
Like I mentioned in another thread, pre-order get's you nothing as I'll be in/out of my local brick and mortar store by 9:30am next Thurs while everyone else is chomping at the bit, peering out the window and grabbing their junk every 2 minutes waiting for the FedEx guy to show up... LOL :p

So, walking in store will get it faster than 98% of the people who pre-ordered :D I just don't see the MAD RUSH to get it. Yes, I've wanted this for the last 3 months, but stores won't sell at, so who cares.

Have fun!

I pre-ordered mine simply because I don't want to have to go into the store. Home activation is simple (done it with every new VZ phone I've purchased), and I figured I've waited this long for the phone, a couple more hours until it shows up in my mailbox is nothing. But either way...all of us will be chomping at the bit to read the forum on Friday to see 1) what everyone thinks, and 2) how everyone received theirs. 2 months and three weeks down, one more week to go!

HAHAHA... hey, not me, that's what I'm saying. All the other people on here who post a million times a day saying "Oh, I can't find my pre-order online.. boo hoo", etc. It's like c'mon man.. If you ordered it, your GOING to freaking get it on the 29th.

I could give a flying F who gets it first and the people that have it already with the VZW slip up. Congrats! :) More power to ya and you lucky SOBs.. LOL...
I just know I'm going to be at my store by 9am on 4/29 and save all the hassle. Plus the young saleswoman yesterday said that she will put one aside because they already have their shipment in for the release.

Yes, doing the online rebate saves you some time and upfront cost, but in the long run your paying exactly the same as everyone else.

If I buy at VZ store, will they let me take it without activating it? I am replacing my phone with NE2 but, I'd rather do the transfer at home, rather than standing around inside the store. Also, I don't want someone else touching my new phone before me. :)

Honestly, *MY* experience was that they had already touched my phone up and down. And I specifically asked JUST for the unopened box, which "wasn't possible they needed to activate it in the store" for my test drive Moto Droid that I took back.

I haven't been very impressed with the in-store customer service, and the manager at one store near me would not honor the benefits I was given over the phone by a CS rep. So, there is no way you'd catch me going in-store. I can stop home and snag my baby in between classes on the 29th!

Yes, i'm a little bit over excited for the phone, but I really was hoping to have it to use for the GPS and google maps while im on vacation. I'm planning to spend a good deal of time walking around a big city and it would be nice to use it for that.. also to take some pictures etc...

So anyways, I called the store, they will not at any verizon store take a "pre-order" However, I went to my local store and they took my name and said they would give me a call when the phone was in but they could not guarantee it for me. so I guess we will see.

for now i think i will go with nickaks thought and just head to the store at 9 am... as long as I'm up that early... and hope for the best.

I pre-ordered mine because I work from 6:00 a.m. and don't get home until 6:00 p.m., as well as getting the instant online rebate vs. the mail-in rebate and the waived activation fee since I am very capable of activating it on my own are major pluses. Not to mention the fact that I am having the phone shipped to my place of business, which makes getting the phone, for me, that much easier.

You mention the "MAD RUSH," to get the phone, yet mention that you'll be at the local store at, or just after, opening... Hmm. ;)

question: How does in store customer service work for online orders? If I get a dud via the online order, would I have to ship it back or could I take it to a store for an exchange

Dud units in the first 30 days are exchanged for a new device thru the same channel purchased. So they'd ship you another new unit and you'd ship the original back. There's a prepaid return shipping label in each shipment, in case you change your mind or get a DOA unit.

After 30 days you can exchange in a corporate store regardless of purchase channel, however the replacement could be a certified like new device.

This is one of the trade offs for the instant rebate. In store you have to do the mail in rebate, but you can get a new replacement unit fast if needed.

Update: Received a reply email from verizon:

Good morning Mr. Xim . Thank you for contacting Verizon Wireless through our website. My name is xxx, and I understand that you would like to pre-order the HTC Incredible device, add another line onto your account, then pick up the devices at a Verizon Wireless Store in xxx on April 29, 2010. First I would like to thank you for your interest in continuing your service with Verizon Wireless with the order of this hot new phone, and adding an additional line of service onto your account. I will be happy to assist you with your inquiry this morning.

Mr. Xim, all pre-orders beginning April 19th will be shipped to your address on file. Regretfully, you are unable to pre-order the HTC Droid Incredible then pick your phone up at a Verizon Wireless Store in xxx. If we were able to do that, we would have a run on our stores that we would not be able to handle (smile).

What you can do, is just go to the store on April 29, 2010 and purchase the phone and add the additional line onto your account all at the same time. The release date for this phone is all store channels is the 29th.

xxx
