So .. How's 4.3 Working Out for You ..?

Just wondering how things were going now people have had 4.3 for a couple of weeks. The number of problems getting reported appears to be slowing - have all the teething issues been sorted

.. or have people just given up :D

I still have 4.3 waiting to install .. Just wondering if it's time to pull the trigger ..

I can't speak for 4.3 on the Nexus 4, specifically, as I have the S4 GPe. But for me, 4.3 is arguably the most minor update in the history of Android. It's really just under-the-hood changes that won't even have an effect on us for a year or so (OpenGL ES3.0 isn't going to be taken advantage of until a sizeable chunk of devices can use it, likely a year from now).

At the time I updated the Nexus 4 it broke root (along with the existing rooting methods) and several apps I rely on. I really, really wished I hadn't done it.

A few weeks down the road and everything I use is fixed; if I was updating today I would have no issues whatsoever. Indeed I delayed updating my Nexus 7 because of the bad experience with the Nexus 4 but when I finally did update it nothing broke - new root methods have been employed and broken apps updated.

No need for further delay - the update is now (relatively) painless and definitely worthwhile :)

There was some growing pains, like getting root and titanium backup to work properly, but overall it seemed to be decent. Not a whole lot different than 4.2.2, as Medion alluded to, but a nice refresh. Most app developers did a fair job of getting their apps updated to 4.3 which is always the biggest growing pain out of them all imo.

It hasn't been talked about much, but TRIM seems to be a big deal. I know all my androids have got stupid slow after 6-12 months... Then again, if you switch phones every 6 months, guess it doesn't matter :D

I don't use a SIM PIN so I can't comment on that specifically, but I did notice a few oddities (including app crashes) immediately after updating both the Nexus 4 and 7; a couple of reboots later everything worked as expected so I'd suggest you restart at least once and preferably twice (just to be on the safe side) to allow 4.3 to "settle down".

I have no idea why this happens but it worked for me :)

This is what I thought at first. Now I'm finding all sorts of sick apps that are only compatible with 4.3.

4.3 increased the butter factor as well. Also it increased touch sensitivity for our beloved Nexus 4. New camera. Android device manager

Not sure how long you've been with Android(Eclair here), but there have been weaker updates in the past. You could easily say 4.1.2>4.2 was less significant but the reality is there's much more under the hood changes now that the overall UI is as beautiful and fast as it is.

I personally want to see Google pack on more features(not too much) and really make a serious run at Samsung and Apple via Moto and Nexus.

So far no real problems - apart from a second prompt for the SIM password while the phone's been on for hours

Just wondering if anyone has managed to get Android Device Manager to actually work - i.e. have their phone location turn up on google.com/android/devicemanager? I've followed all the instructions from the post on here and the Google help page - even repeating them several times - but still nothing :(

There is an Erase Device link that appears to be enabled, but the fact that my phone is reporting it's location to Google Now but the website can't find it doesn't exactly fill me with confidence that anything's going to happen if my phone does get stolen :hmmmm:

Would you please list these 4.3 exclusive apps?

4.3 increased the butter factor as well.

I'm not seeing it, but then I only had my phone about 2 weeks before 4.3 hit. I likely hadn't overloaded the phone to the point where TRIM mattered. Performance wise, I've noticed no differences yet.

New camera.

Yea, this may be a nice feature. My device had the new camera on 4.2.2, so I never used the old one.

Android device manager

Nothing to do with 4.3. This is independent of the OS and works on Android 2.2 and newer.

Not sure how long you've been with Android(Eclair here),

2.1 (second Eclair revision) for me.

That is what I was referring to, and I apologize if I was unclear. I meant that 4.3 was an under-the-hood update with few user-facing changes. For those on the S4/One GPe devices, there was almost zero in user-facing changes (TRIM makes no apparent difference due to device age, and we already had the camera and Google Keep). Many of the API changes (OpenGL ES 3, BLE, etc.) won't work on older phones, making this update even less useful to devices that predate the Nexus 4 (if/when those devices ever get it).

Ok, then I'm afraid your comment went over my head. What's a "sick app" and have you an example that is compatible only with 4.3?
Well here's the most important in my opinion...

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.greatbytes.activenotifications

As for the camera. I rather like being able to use the volume button to take a photo. I also like having timer options. I also like the camera not force closing, forcing random reboots and or making annoying ticking sounds like they did on 4.2.2. I like how they fixed things and added features..

I mean what's wrong with you people? You buy a Nexus 4 then are hesitant to upgrade? If you people don't like what's new you could have purchased any other phone out there and you'd be forced to be behind Nexus owners...

This seems to be the anti-Nexus Nexus thread. Well have fun kids. At some point ask yourself why you bought a damn Nexus in the first place. In the meantime enjoy running your outdated, inferior Android version

Cool man have fun with your ideas.

4.3 is a definite upgrade over 4.2.2. Whether you choose to like it or not it's noticeable.
4.3 also has specific upgrades to the Nexus 4 which you don't own.

I care not even a little that you used the 4.3 camera before. It's still a feature and upgrade of 4.3

Do you people wake up sip on some haterade then come in here and try to whip each other into a frenzy on why you're not upgrading?

I'm mystified....

I drug my feet for a week because I was on CM 10.1.2....but then I had to find out what's new. The touch screen sensitivity for me alone is well worth the upgrade

A new version of Android is often exciting, but there are always hiccups. For those who had a Gnex will recall the transition from Gingerbread to ICS was pretty rough because of all the changes made. Some people enjoy this part of owning a Nexus device, being on the bleeding edge of Android, while other enjoy consistency and devices that just work. After all, that's why some people own iPhones. ;)

One could also say have fun playing your new version of android on an outdated phone as the nexus 4 is not cutting edge anymore by any stretch of the imagination. But thats another story. As stated before android 4.3 is not a huge upgrade and if it has the slightest stability issues with any apps people use on a daily basis why upgrade? To make a smiley face in a text message? People upgrade and choose not to upgrade for there own personal reasons. Its not "hating" to have a reason not to upgrade the o.s. its making sure they don't have issues using there phone as they want to use it. Doesn't matter if its a nexus or a galaxy. Some people choose to wait for the dust to settle and for stability issues to be resolved before they run an upgrade.
