Want to get Incredible by using a 30-day return but have questions

I bought a phone and the very next day the official release date of the Incredible was finally announced, so i was very disappointed. I am thinking of getting the Incredible before my 30 days are up, assuming the store has them in stock before my trial period ends. I can't order online because my phone is upgrade eligible anymore, so I'm stuck waiting to find one in a store.

My question is on the port for the charger. Will this be mini USB or micro USB?

Another question is on Verizon returns. Besides the phone will they take back chargers, cases, etc., if I have the packages and they like new? They are since I've only had this a week and have been extra careful, knowing I probably will do an exchange. I have never done an exchange so I hope all of this works out and I'm able to do the swap! I had given up on getting an official release date soon, but I should have just waited.

I had a $49.99 credit, instant rebate kind of thing, used in store when I bought my phone. When I do the exchange will I get to use credit for that all over again? The phone I got ended up being free with that credit so I don't know how this all works if it is returned. Thanks!

For the exchange, I have heard if you return the phone and wait 3 days before getting the Incredible, you don't have to pay the restocking fee so I'd return it 3 days before the 29th.

Also, you get charged for parts not returned so yes the charger and all will be expected.

Not sure on the credit, but I would assume you'd get it back just like you would your money.

Well what i would do is call your local verizon and see what they have to say. I talked to a lady over the phone the other day and she told me i would have to send the eris back now and wait until the incredible came out to get it. Well after that i had to reactivate another phone and got to talking to another lady. She informed me that i was right to send the phone back but on the 29th i should walk into the verizon store about 10 miles from here, she even looked it up and gave me directions, and walk out the door with my new phone. She also made sure to note on my account to get the new every 2 discount reapplied to the new phone and if the store had any questions she gave me her contact info and told me to have them call her. We talked for about an hour on the phone and he helped me resolve a couple other issues i was having. She was very nice and professional and i have no worries about driving up to the store on the 29th and getting my new phone after talking with her. She was so excited for me :)

The charger I was going to return was an extra one bought, not the one that came in the box which of course I will return. Good to clarify that.

I didn't know about the 3-day idea. If I did that now would I just be without a phone until then or is there any way I could go back to using my phone I had prior to a week ago so I had a phone in the meantime? Anybody done that before?

On the other hand I might be better off actually getting my hands on one in the store to make sure I like the Incredible as much as I think I will, especially with a touch keyboard. I wonder if the stores will get them in as demo units ahead of time. that would be super!

Hey CrystalClear,

I have a Pre Plus that I will be returning on April 29 within the 30 days of activation. I upgraded to this phone similar to the way you did, with a $50 instant rebate, the Pre Plus costing $0. I talked to Verizon just the other day and they have no problem with giving me an Incredible on the 29th, albeit a $35 restocking fee for the Pre Plus.

Sounds like you should be good to go with a new Incredible on the 29th, but you must go into a store for it.

Absolutely. I had an Eris, returned it on day 30 (about a week ago) and reactivated my old LG-VX8300. Last Mon I ordered my Incredible for $199.

When I went to return my phone to Verizon, they said that I had to pay a restocking fee, even though I was just moving back to my old phone and waiting for the Droid Incredible to be released. I asked them about the 3-day waiting period thing but they said that they had to charge the $35 restocking fee immediately.

I've taken great advantage of the 30 day return policy since Nov. 2009, at least 5 times, and have yet to get charged a restocking fee...
