Blowing smoke

How can you tell when the salesperson is blowing smoke up your was or are they just dumb? I'm tired of getting wrong or bad info just for the sale. When I did sales I was taught to never say I don't know but to say if you don't know that you will ask and find out. So what are some tricks or questions to see if they are honest or just blowing smoke up your ass?

Hi , Let me tell you I have a friend who's older and new to android he has the LG Motion. the other day he had no internet no 4g/3g at all.
So he took the phone to the nearest store. The guy there told him that in order for the phone to pick up internet he needed a gmail account since it is a google phone . He said that's impossible it was just working fine yesterday. So he asks me I said , yes a gmail account is convenient, but not necessary for internet. So I checked the settings turned off wifi , and his data was unchecked for some reason , so I turned it on and boom 4g. So metro does not know what they're talking about. that's my story.
Thanks ,
Tony

I think we're using the same store. Or metro has tapped into the same gene pool a few times too many.

I was in a TMobile store last week with my nephew and there was a this woman ahead of him who had "saved" her upgrade for like 3 years and now she wanted a GS4 for her son. She started flipping out when she found out she had to pay a down payment for the phone and pay monthly installments. To his credit the rep tried to explain to her that, yeah she'd be paying $20 a month for the phone, but the cost of her plan itself would drop $20. She was having none of it and started to get loud and threaten that she was gonna go to ATT. The rep told her that ATT would cost her lot more per month (true). Then she said she might go to Metro and the rep told her "If you want to lose your signal every other block go ahead. Metro's a joke" I couldn't just stand there and say nothing so I said "MetroPcs is TMoble why are you trashing a division of the corporation you work for?" He told me that the 2 were separate and used different towers. I said true for the older phones, but she can go to a Metro store right now and get a phone that runs on TMobiles network or even bring her sons old phone there and get it set up. And I've been with Metro for almost 3 years and I don't lose the signal every other block. He made a little "I dont believe you" face and turned his attention back to the woman but I wasn't done trolling him yet. I told her that TMobile does still have upgrades with contracts if she went to Bestbuy or Costco down the street or she could get one off an internet site like Wirefly. She left the store to do that. She had smile on her face like she got over on TMobile even though she would have been better off going with the installment plan. The rep took care of my nephew but he was pretty pissed off I could tell. I don't mind my friends or coworkers cracking on me about Metro but I'll be damned if I allow a peon that technically works for them do it.

carrier dealers dont hang with the android boyz here so unless they in corp or higher they dont know jack. dealers are just mostly trained in sales. but if we take a gs4 or a gs3 thats boot looping 98% of reps wont know what to do. why? cuz they are paid only to sell phones. but here at androidforums we are different we take a small prob and take it apart and try to understand why its occurring and try to resolve it.

Well me being a person who frequents here, I am not a standard metro customer(someone they are not used to dealing with) i would often go to an auty just to burn time when bored asking questions and such that I already know the answer to, I found one work is a tad bit behind on phone trends and one knows what she is talking about 75% of the time but the owner just pushes phones. I once asked do you guys have any ics phones. He had no clue I told him it was the most recent android he tried to sell me an activa, I once asked for a price on a sd card after hearing the out landish price i asked what class sd card it was, a pause came over the room and I was given a blank stare as he said, "the best class" (it was only class two btw) I do these test often lol.

Try this one. A few days ago I wanted to replace my stolen phone and heard about the new GSM's and wanted to see them. I told the kid at metro my ICS was stolen and I wanted a Jellybean. He looked at me stranger than my dogs do then said " the Bask in Robins was 3 doors down" I couldn't even respond to that and started to leave when I saw most everyone that overheard us was chuckling. How do you respond to that?

My Buddys parents have metro and are not getting good signal where they are at right now. I told him to tell them to be a little more patient it will improve soon enough and if they didn't want to wait and see there are a few Metro phones that will work on mobiles network now. They didn't believe me I guess because they went to a T-Mobile store to look for new phones and asked them about the merger because I told them about it. The guy at the T-Mobile store said that there will be no merger for Metro and T-Mobile in the whole state of Virginia and tried to sell them T-Mobile phones.

I often play dumb or intentionally bite my tongue with customers. For example, if someone asks, "When are you going to get the new ________?" Even if I may have an anticipated launch date, I may not divulge the information.

Another example: A recent customer was bashing T-Mobile because they overcharged him for minutes when he still had rollover minutes available. I interjected, "You mean Cingular." He said, "Yeah, yeah. Cingular but T-Mobile bought up Cingular." At that point, I decided not to correct him any further and just proceeded to sell him a new phone.

Most of the metro sales people aren't very well informed well they might be well informed but not care and/or pay attention

Any corporate store has a 500 ft radius of smoke around it LOL...MetroPCS sales personnel are trained to do 3 things: To use a cash register, swipe a credit card and to push a sale any way possible, including telling customers that something like the Coolpad Quattro 4G is the best selling phone and people love it, even when there is a line of 9 angry people behind you waiting to return the same POS handset they are trying to push you into buying. Most don't even know simple unit specs like screen size, CPU etc.

Sorry, no offense intended personally to any MPCS employees lurking around here, but out of the two stores I regularly visit, I don't think that the combined IQ between all of the employees even totals to above room temperature.

You tell him I think that's where you should be instead selling phones.

Authy are hit and miss I have used a corporate store twice they were very ill equipped to deal with me. They stuck mostly top buzz words trying to sell but they weren't the right ones lol

Yes quick questions.
1. What's your "small" fee to add an imei ?
2. Why wouldn't a store add my imei?

Well, it's $15 to normally switch from one device to another, mine would be $25(which includes me adding it to your account legally and the standard metro transfer fee), but you would need to already have an active BYOD sim, the account information(phone number, pin, and IMEI, and type of phone)

2. Some stores just wont add certain phones

and exactly, I couldn't have said it better myself, some metro employees are not very knowledgeable on devices, so if they say you can't, inbox me, I will check if you can, and I will take care of the matter.

When I was looking for a part time job to supplement my income last year and earlier this year, I naturally wanted to work for Metro...why you ask, because 1. Employee discount on my service :p and 2. I know more than stores reps combined in one, so I would easily outsell full time associates working part time.

But each time I applied, I got emails back saying thank you, but position has been filled type of thing.

So annoying.
