What plan will this require on Verizon?

What plan will this phone require on Verizon? I mean assuming you want the full experience. Will there be an option to add an unlimited data plan to existing plans (especially a family plan?) Any info on plans for using this phone would be greatly appreciated.

The cheapest single user plan I could buy on their website when purchasing the HTC Touch Pro (a SmartPhone) was ~$70/month. What I'm not too clear about is the difference between the $30 "email and web for smartphone" data plan versus the "$45 unlimited data usage" data plan.

Any one else know the difference?

The $45 unlimited (5gig) plan adds push email (Exchange Sync) and/or tethering. The $30 plan only allows pop and imap for email and does not allow tethering.

What's the vzw vs. tmobile comparison in terms of voice and data plans? (yes I know the site will give some ideas, but users often have a better handle on the ins and outs)

Good service doesn't come cheap unfortunately, but the difference in signal strength and coverage of VZW and anyone else is astounding. I hated my MT3G because TMO coverage was horrible everywhere I went. I rarely find myself without 5 bars with Alltel/VZW, never have had a problem where I went anywhere in the country with them.

Also, unless you do a ton of talking, you can opt for less minutes. You get 10 numbers you can get free messages/minutes to... you guys can't do that much talking, can you?

I don't need unlimited minutes, but for unlimited text and data(including internet) type plan with let's say around 700 minutes, how much would that run? And don't they charge you extra for GPS service? How much is that?

Sprint makes it nice and easy. I'm asking because I'm considering MAYBE the Tao, but not if it's too much more pricey than Sprint.

I am in a plan with my mother and bro, and we share 500 anytime minutes. My mom and I have Blackberries, so we have the required data plans (Unlimited), and overall we have unlimited messaging as well.

Our bill, not counting taxes, is $160 a month.

Like I've said before... you get what you pay for. My friend has had nothing but trouble with Sprints network being down constantly and messages never coming/going. He's moving to VZW at the end of the month. I guess that's area specific though, but I've been all over the country with VZW and never had a problem.

450 minutes voice is $40 and 900 minutes is $60, so I will assume 900 minutes to cover your 700.

There is no unlimited text plan. 250 messages is $5, 500 is $10, 1,500 is $15, and 5,000 is $20. I will assume 5,000 as that's the closest to unlimited.

You didn't mention insurance ($6) or visual voice mail ($3), ringback tones ($1), roadside assistance ($3) or detailed billing ($2), so I assume you do not need them.

VZ Navigator is a $9.99 add-on.

Everything but Basic on Individual or Family Plan has this in it.

Sprint definitely costs less. My DH has Sprint with a Pre. We have no Sprint coverage at home or at work where we live, so it's not really an option for me. He did get the free air wave thingy, but it took a lot of phone calls. He also said he doesn't like the slider. WebOS is awesome, though!

I tried going through looking at Verizon pricing again where you choose an email and messaging package with unlimited texts, but I didn't see how to add nav to it. The plan I priced was the Email plan, and I did not see a way to get unlimited messaging with it. I didn't realize all the different nuances with the different plans.

I will still have to stay with Verizon because the network is so important. It looks like right now Sprint costs much less. I am hoping they'll announce new, better plans to go with their new, open policy for Android phones.

It's an area to area thing, but whether people like it or not, you DO get what you pay for. VZW has the best coverage in the country. Just compared coverage maps between the 3 major companies. So you pay a slightly higher premium for nearly guaranteed coverage everywhere in the country, whereas my friend pays for his shoddy always-down-network from Sprint, who decided to move to VZW!

Sprint does have a nice everything plan but first they need to stabilize their network. It's a pretty normal economical situation here, people pay more for the better product. 80 million can't be wrong!

And an individual line for VZW with 450 minutes, unlimited text/pic/video/instant messaging, with unlimited Web and email all for $70, I'd say that has Sprint beat.

I have Verizon and my husband has Sprint. I have good coverage and solid signal where he has no coverage at all. I have heard that they shared networks, but at least in my area, that is not the case.

Very strange. We have 2 BB's and a standard voice phone, and they do not require the third line to have Data. I have also never heard that they share networks, do you have some sort of citation?

Maybe "share" is the wrong word, they roam on each other networks. I guess if you have a local sprint tower that is weak, your phone will take that over a stronger VZW tower. But if you are in the middle of no-mans land and VZW is all that is available, your Sprint phone will work. Though, in the later case you'd most likely find that both networks are actually roaming on a smaller carrier's signal.

I don't see how looking at both VZW's and Sprint's plans work they way you describe. Looking at Sprint's plans, I would expect you to have to get the "Everything Data Family" w/ 1500 min for $130 (2 lines) plus $20 for the 3rd line for a total of $150. With VZW I see the "Nationwide Connect Family" plan for $140 (2 lines and 1400 min) plus $20 for the 3rd line for a total of $160. Note: VZW does offer a 700min plan, whereas Sprint does not.

Maybe there is some way, but it isn't obvious with their plans. How is your plan done?

In fact, when I talked to a Sprint rep while I was looking at a Pre he told me I'd have to get the $130 "Everything Data Family" plan (2 lines) even if the 2nd line was just a flip phone.

I had no idea until this thread started just how confusing Verizon's plans were. Looks like the only way to know for sure is to select your options and see what comes up. Of course, they can make changes to the plans for the new holiday phone season, so we won't know for sure until the real phone can be put in your shopping cart.
