Guys, I have my LG Connect rooted and running on vv5 firmware and it is working great!
I have a great 4G connection and vv5 is running silky smooth. Dan R. is a root God! It took him about 8 mins to root my phone, I was blown away watching him work his magic! When the root script is released I suggest you switch to vv5. The com.android.phone error is gone and I have my phone back now! Great stuff!

When the root tool is released I will put on ROM Manager and install cwm and see how that runs.

That's great. I'm hoping that the same root works with VV4, seeing as my Motion is on it's way out and may need another phone for my missus. VV4 had batter battery life and fastest connectivity. I think VV5 is updated baseband and installs a newer PRL.

And... I'd be careful deleting bloat files if you don't have CWM on there yet LOL.. ;)

Hey, vv4 will not connect to 4G, you will get that stupid phone error. You will have to update to vv5. :p

Even though there is a PRL in each of the cab files, it never updates the PRL for some odd reason. :dontknow:

You could downgrade to zv8, would still say prl 3032.

Right, but for some reason the only FW that works with the Metro PCS merger is vv5.... Don't ask me why cause I have no freakin' idea! I know it drove me bonkers for almost 2 months... :D

That is why I wanted vv5 rooted so badly, so I could use my phone again... :vamp:

Wait I have a rooted ZVA and I haven't really been messing with my phone since I got this. How do I get this FW without losing my root? Battery has always been bad but last couple of months has been terrible. And 4G keeps cutting off. Any link or tip that points me to the right direction will be extremely appreciated.

Eh :hmpf: I gotta say guys I'm not too impressed with the VV5 so far. just for it updated yesterday from ZVA, what I had before, and I'm having most of the same issues (signal cuts off, 4g to EV to 1x to nothing at all then randomly comes back on; battery still overheating, etc.) Nothing much has changed other than I lost the ROM I had before and my phone is now slower since its not overclocked. I don't know. I wonder if maybe I just didn't update it the right way? Who knows, but I've pretty much given up on this phone now. I'm gonna probably move on to the S3 from AT&T or the Optimus in the near future and try that "bring any phone to Metro" deal and see how it goes from there. Id like a phone that developers dedicate lots of time to. If there's any suggestions on what I can adjust on this phone in the meantime it'd be great to hear from y'all. In the meantime ill see if there's a few tweaks I can do or see if the bugs go away in time.

How did u update? With my guide, or at metro store?

I updated with your guide. Everything went smoothly, thank you for that. I rooted right after with Dan's zip file and it worked good as well. A few hours later when I started giving heavy use is when all the same problems started happening. Then there's instances when it works good. 4G is fast(as it will be) but its only brief instances, a few minutes at the most. No force closes or crashes so far. I had black plague on it with ZVA before, but that goes away I assume with the unrooting/unbricking procedure you helped us with right?

The best thing is that this update didn't remove any of my data at all and every app that I've used since has worked smoothly so far. My last 3 phones have all been LGs and I like rhem, but maybe its time to switch up. idk yet. in the meantime I'm really hoping someone makes a new ROM for this firmware. CM10 w/ VV5 will definitely change my mind.

This is probably why its not working as it should. You should do a factory reset and get rid of anything and all that carried over from ZVA/Plague, whichever you had, and start over fresh. I've run every firmware possible on my Connect; anything VV3 or higher showed no symptoms that ZVA had at all. Rooted, clean VV4/VV5 on my Connect runs smoother, faster than anything else including our CM10.

Will a factory reset take me back to ZVx? And is there anything I should back up other than the obvious photos and music before I do this that won't affect the performance of the phone? Those 2 things are the only thing that come to mind but I feel like weeks or maybe months down the line I'm gonna be looking for something and realize it I lost it in the fire that was the hard reset of my phone. :shot:

Since you have flashed VV5 to your phone, that's what will stay on the phone until you flash a different firmware. Doing a factory reset will reset your VV5 to default and will only erase only the apps and data that are contained in the phone's internal storage. Photos, apps, app data, videos etc that are stored on your EXTERNAL sdCard will not be affected by a factory reset. Its on YOU to make sure your that everything you want to keep is backed up and/or stored on your sdCard before doing the reset!!!!

Another suggestion is using titanium backup pro, which will backup anything you want including SMS data to external sdCard. Also, if your phone contains an app that is dragging your CPU down, I would re-add your wanted apps back one at a time checking each to see if they are using a lot of RAM. Hope that helps.

Exactly right! :D
