Root Help with root - can't flash SU

I don't know if the "Root" subforum is still active, I can't seem to find it.

Anyway, I'm having trouble rooting my Incredible. I unlocked the bootloader and installed CWM recovery fine, and when I go to flash the SU zip it says it was successful, but Superuser won't show up in my app drawer, and the root checker app says my phone isn't rooted. I've tried flashing three times with no luck.

I was wondering if I missed a step, or if there is something else I can try. Any advice would be appreciated.

Edit to add: One of the times I tried flashing after wiping cache and dalvik cache, still didn't work.

have you tried installing superuser from the play store?

ps...the root subforum (and all others) is now located at the bottom of the main page. I'll be moving this thread there.

Thanks for moving the thread.

Yeah, I tried installing from the store with no luck. I'm wondering if I missed a step? I unlocked the bootloader using htcdev.com, and that worked. I then flashed CWM recovery via fastboot, and that worked. The next step I tried was installing the su.zip via recovery, and that seems successful but I can't gain root, and superuser app doesn't show up in my app drawer. Do I need to do something else to gain root first?

That worked, thanks a lot!

Should I downgrade and go through S-off also? Does that give me additional benefits?
s-off definitely gives you more options in a soft brick situation and makes it easier to install AOSP roms(cyanogen, MIUI). without s-off, you have to manually flash the kernel separately. In my opinion, it is worth the extra effort to go s-off.
