sound quality and loudness through headphone jack

to those that have gotten the incredible early (lucky bastards!), how is the sound quality and volume through the headphone jack?

i currently have a moto droid and might switch to the incredible. one concern is the output through the headphone jack. the droid is very quiet through the headphone jack and before the 2.0.1 update had a terrible crackle on the left channel.

does the incredible sound good through the headphone jack? any crackle at higher volumes?

does it get loud? really loud?

I have been using the fm radio...works like a champ. Been using the crappy stock iPod headphones from my touch. Couldnt be more pleased.

And yes i own a droid. HTC did everything well on this phone. No sound issues. Just browser crashes from testing flash sites

How is the loudness compared to Droid? Droid is kind of wimpy in regards to output from 3.5mm.

exactly why i asked. the droids headphone jack is wimpy. he says it's loud, hopefully it's quite a bit louder than the droid.

Just tested the same mp3 on both devices. The volume is a little louder on my incredible. The droid crackles maxed out...the incredible didnt. So all in all, better than the droid. And i love my droid.

Yes, everything is relative, so what is Dinc loudness compared to? I have read posts from people saying the Droid was loud

Loud is not as important as the gain of the output. A "louder" device tends to not strain for decent quality of output. Quiet devices tend to never sound very good. Case in point, the infamous poor sound quality of the Archos 5 players.

Yeah i know but for comparison between devices..you can really see a difference in output quality.

yup.

as long as the same headphones were used on both tests then the test makes sense and is valid. that's all that matters.

BTW, the N900 has the best sound quality of any "phone" I have listened to for music. Sounds "almost" as good as the legendary Gmini 402 media player.

Another cool thing about the N900 is that it intergrates media, so it treats the built in 32gb and microsd card as one media source

Maemo sux as a smartphone OS on the N900, but the N900 rocks for EVERYTHING else

Droid was not bad, but is weak compared to the N900.

My car sound system has custom amp boosts for each source, so it helps for low power inputs. Most mid to higher Pioneer systems have this feature.

i have a Pioneer 880PRS head unit with Image Dynamics mids and Seas tweeters running active, and of course a subwoofer as well. all of which are on very powerful Digital Designs amplifiers. the amp on my mids and tweeters is rated at 200 watts rms per mid, and 100 watts rms per tweeter. the amp on my sub is rated at 620 watts rms. i tuned the whole thing with a measuring mic and my laptop. i am obsessed with audio. the droid did good, but it could have a bit more power from the 3.5mm jack. i had to boost the aux input quite a bit in the settings on the head unit to have it be a comparable level to the cd, ipod, and radio.

when i plug my droid into my home theater system to listen to music through it i have to crank that pretty high to get to a good volume. of course my HT system is powerful enough, but it'd be nice if i didn't have to have the volume turned so high all the time on it.

the droid works fine, i'm just anal and obsessed with audio.

I have the media volume down to the lowest setting, and its still too loud - anyone have any suggestions?

Did you buy the headset from Verizon store? You need it to be the antenna?

I just got my phone today and i am sitting at work listening to some music and i thought the same thing, its TOO loud over the ear phones. i don't have a solution but I will be looking.

I think that the sound quality is poor. Mostly because drums (bass sounds) sound more like they're popping than thumping. I first noticed it yesterday when I ran Slacker through the car stereo, and thought maybe it was just the song. But I had never noticed this before when listening to Slacker with my Blackberry, nor when using it with my iPod at home.

Today at the gym, I listened to Slacker again, with the same Sennheiser headset that I have been using with my Blackberry, and noticed that popping sound, and also noticed it when using the FM radio on the Incredible. I am thinking this must be an Android issue and it can be fixed via software.

Also, is there an equalizer or any other kind of audio enhancement built in? I couldn't find anything.

I'll 2nd the equalizer question - is there any equalizer available - or at least a media player that one can download that would have an equalizer? Also< I am coming from a blackberry pearl flip (which had an equalizer and very good mp3 sound), and was wondering if there is a way to sync playlists to the Inc like one could with the blackberry? I have tried several different ways to put my playlists (from my PC) to my Inc, unsuccessfully.
