Damn Someone has stolen my HTC One

Can't believe it just got back from the Gym and realised I didn't have my phone with me Luckily I had an app called wheres my droid which came in useful for getting the location but once the person had turned my phone off I had no chance of finding it. thank god my phone has a security code so all my files are safe and cant be accessed. so O2 (MY provider) has now blocked/barred the phone so now the phone can't be tracked at all. I had important stuff on my phone so the question is can people bypass the pattern locks on android while maintaining the data on the device???


Any advice on what to do?

To be completely honest and paranoid - anyone with the time, access, desire and knowledge can pull any information off of any hard drive.

Don't get me wrong I know once someone puts there mind to it anything is possible but I think the everyday person won't be that "Tech" Minded. Have you got any tips on what to do in terms of data on the phone I've called the insurance company and they'll be replacing it. So should I change the passwords for my dropbox,Ebay,Playstore,facebook because I know that i'm still logged into all that stuff on my stolen phone.

The average semi savvy person will put the phone into recovery mode and factory reset it so your stuff will get wiped. Really sorry about your loss mate. I know exactly how you feel

Can't believe it happened to me. I'm Not worried about retrieving the data back I just want to make sure no one has access to the files on the device. That's what i'm worried about because it has billing information and accounts that have a credit card linked so i'm just a bit worried that if someone does bypass the pattern code they can buy/do whatever they want.

Yes, your data is most likely to get wiped without the person trying to access it.

Once they pull power, turn off the phone, place it in a foil bag, etc. not much you can do. And anyone with half a brain will do that when taking a phone.

On your end, as you mentioned, change all your passwords that you can think of that the phone has in its memory - starting with your google account. Probably more of a precaution, but it will give you peace of mind.

Also, consider replacing any credit cards that may be on that phone. That is a major hassle, but that would just be more peace of mind for you.

Yeah i changed my google password when my last phone got stolen just incase. The thief is gona have to sell it outside the UK.. possibly outside europe(?) For it to work on another network. Hopefully thel just wipe it :thumbup:

They did! And I've enjoyed using your old phone here in California for quite some time now.

Yeah I tried to change my google password but I have two Step verification. So i'm unable to do that.

If you had any data on the SD card (whether saved there purposely or using app2sd), that is accessible WITHOUT any special skills and without breaking your security lock...

Not 100% sure how to turn on and off 2-step. But can't you just turn it off via a browser?

If you've 2 step enabled, just revoke your phones access using the security section of your gmail account.

You can print off codes for situations like this. Google will generate about 10 codes for you which you can use anytime, they're longer than the standard ones but it's really useful.

Thanks everyone for the the help luckily the gym rang me up this morning and had told me that my phone had been left outside in a bike basket lol I think once I had the phone barred and with the help of where's my droid they decided to just get rid of it once they knew it was just a very expensive Ipod and could only make calls outside the country. Not sure lol I know I'm extremely lucky to have my phone back
