getting away from sprint

i am officialy over them. I have spent the last 12 or so years defending them to the world. in the last year i have dropped more calls than i have ever before. i cant get the data to connect 95% of the time. my gps never works when i need it. i call and all i get is we are working on it. well good lord i was in one of the first markets that they started 4g in. How long should this really take at this point. i see people saying they get out of their etf all the time. well that is what i want to do. I have about 9 more months on my contract and i can not do this any more. i might as well be on cricket for the service i get. at least then i would expect it to not be good, but i would also not be paying as much as i do now. i have decided that i am going with att since asking everyone i know in my market state they are the best here. i am waiting for the moto x to come out before i do the fight with retentions. does anyone have any advice as how to have this fight with them and retain my current numbers? thanks for any help. as you can tell being with them for 12 plus years i have no idea how to do this fight.

not yet. i am waiting for the moto x to come out then i am going to switch. i dont want to do it too soon cause i dont want to be without a phone. just wanted to know the best way to deal with retentions.

I went by att just to ask some questions. The boy was an idiot. Like I have read around here on many threads I knew more about the phones they offered than he did. However he did enlighten me about getting out of a contract with little issues. He said find an address that has no signal for that carrier and tell them you are moving there and they will let you out with no problems. It just so happens I went to a lake house a few weeks ago and had zero signal. Besides the fact I get no signal at my home and am always forced to use wifi no matter where I am I know sprint will tell me we are working on the problem. This lake house thing may just work.

I wouldn't say that I'm seriously considering leaving, but I'm definitely mulling the idea.

But...I did get confirmation that the T-Mobile signal booster doesn't do anything, when the phone isn't actually being used to make calls...so, that still leaves me with a choice of Sprint vs. Verizon, which I would still stick with Sprint considering Verizon's pricing (by comparison). Even though Sprint signal has been extremely quirky by my house, it's still in and out at least. T-mobile, while on standby, is the same as ATT when at my house...non-existant signal.

Yeah, I had quoted you, but makes sense that they moved it to here. Anyhow, I kinda know now what you were going through before, simcha.

Before NV started, Sprint was so strong at my house compared to all the other networks, it was unbelievable and the main reason I stuck around for so long. Ever since they started NV, especially close to my house, signal has either been super strong or non existent. I never minded Sprint's slow 3g speeds and mediocre Wimax or LTE coverage, but when it comes to actually having phone service, that's #1 priority for me. My Note 2 used to get such great battery life , prior to all the network vision upgrades, but since my phone pops in and out of service at my house, the battery life suffers significantly because it can't even roam.

I agree. By the time I get to work my phone has drained to 74%. I don't even think about not having a charger at work cause it roams for everything all day.

I would think a 'guide' would be a little more informed.

Not going to argue with the sprint bashing but really if you want out sell your phone and pay the etf. Trying to get retentions to waive anything is only going to frustrate you more.

Informed of what? The service that sprint provided me and the those around me is atrocious at best. There is no denying that. When I left the phone choices were severely lacking. I like Motorola and there were no options from that manufacturer.

I'm curious that you would say I'm misinformed, I was with them for 6 years and their service was progressively worse...

Sprint service provided me with dropped calls and worse than dialup data speeds. I felt like they were stealing my money. I went with Verizon as well. It is expensive but the call reception is dramatically better and the data speeds blow Sprint away. At least I don't feel like I am giving money away for nothing. If Sprint would make good on their promises (burned once by failed Wimax 4G rollout) then I would come back after my Verizon contract is up.

There are always going to be Sprint fanboys or people who just like to argue from the other point of view. I wouldn't let it bother you. The biggest Sprint supporter in this forum (ran to Sprint's defense in every thread) is now a customer of another provider...lol.

Well, I've said this many times but depending where you are Sprint is either really good or really bad. I guess I'm lucky because the Chicago metro area is in pretty good shape Network Vision wise.

Although I must admit that the data speeds have gone down over the last 4-5 months. Not sure if it's due to congestion or possible work being done on the network. But my contract is not up until June 2014 so it's a mute point at this time.
I'm going to wait it out until then and see what happens then consider my options.

T-Mob sounds very enticing and I do get a corporate discount with Verizon so I'll have to see what happens over the next 6-7 months.

If Sprint forces me to change to the new plans in order to upgrade (Summer 2014), I'm leaving as well. The (new) prices are on par with Verizon and ATT, and I really don't burn much data in a month thanks to wifi at home and/or work.

To the OP, I noticed you have the LTEvo. When I had that phone I had nothing but issues when it came to the LTE network, and it would make data unusable in 4GLTE areas.

When I got the GS3 the data issues were pretty much resolved. When I upgraded from GS3 to GS4, it was like using a totally different network. While not as fast as the other carriers, reliability has certainly improved with the GS4.

That is exactly how I felt. Moved to att last week. I did not call sprint I just ported my number then got an email from Sprint wanting to know why I was leaving. They wanted to call me but no call yet. Let me tell you so far I am glad I left sprint. Best move I have made in a long time. My phone works everywhere now.

I too just left Sprint. I was a customer since 1999. I just couldn't take the atrocious data speeds. I went to T-Mobile after getting the Nexus 4. I didn't port my number initially, so I had service on both phones. I did a speed test on each and got 10 Mbps on T-Mobile HSPA+ compared to 0.02 (no that isn't a typo) Mbps on Sprint. I quickly ported over my number after seeing that. Also, I didn't realize how poor the call quality was on Sprint. After making calls using T-Mobile, it is a world of difference.

We also left Sprint, but not because of data speeds or bad reception - their reception is pretty good in our area.

We left because of the price - that was some serious $$$$ every month.

Ended up with Ting - uses the Sprint network, but we pay less then half per month.

i finally was able to call sprint to end my contract and to my surprise my etf was not as bad as i thought. seems i only had one phone on contract (not sure how that is) but of the 3 devices they said i only had to pay to get out of one and it was 180 not 200. so i am good and very glad i left. and for those of you looking for a new phone take a look at the moto x. for once a phone i dont have to keep on the charger all day. love it. you might be surprised at how good it really is even with the "lower specs"

Wow, so it seems that Network Vision being mostly complete in a region does nothing to improve network quality. That's good to know. Sprint is dead last in most regions. Well, Verizon looks great. Again, sometimes you get what you pay for.

I've been with Sprint for well over a decade. Never had problems with dropped calls. I was one of the people who got scrubs the Wimax rollout. Never did get it in Wichita. I upgraded to the One when it came out. The biggest problem I have with Sprint are the 3g speeds. Yesterday I had a 3300ms ping with 18k down and 15k up. 4g service isn't bad here. I get around 10mb down generally, sometimes faster. I get 4g in most of the city, except the block I live on. I am in a dead spot. A couple houses down the road I either direction and I get 4g again.

I stick it out with them because the price with 4 like especially is still better than AT&T or Verizon. As long as I don't get stuck on 3g,service is good. At home I use wifi anyway, and the poor signal hasn't impacted my call quality.

It really does depend on what market you are in. When I go back to Maine to visit family, I don't get 4g at all, but I average 4mb downloads over 3g. I was shocked at the difference, considering how small a town I was in.
