I5700 Galaxy Spica/lite officially gets Android 2.1

Called samsung norway just now, they said that the update at 19. april is only the unlocked phones, the locked phones (like mine :() is getting the update sometime next week... I'll just keep waiting...

According to this article the update is coming to locked phones sometime before mid-May.

Don't know if I can stand the wait, but I probably won't dare flashing it either. Don't want to brick my new phone!

that's why I'm waiting for the official one I don't see the point in messing about for hours

It really doesnt take hours to do, I done mine in about 15mins the long process was reading up on the know how but since upgrading via Odin 3 weeks ago I have yet to come across ONE problem.

Going back to what you said earlier about needing to unlock your phone to use Odin you dont need to unlock it for the Odin upgrade I have the portal simlock to T-Mobile and there were no issues as I have said.

Wot he says ^ !

Once you have the files, the update takes about 2 mins. Mine is locked to T-Mob & still is.

I agree but to be honest the gallery is pathetic and very slow and things are just slower generally. That is I think the main problem with the vanilla implementation. So I hope the final one is actually properly engineered. The problem is you have to do the engineering yourself unless you can find a mod. Has anybody found a good mod for I570EXXJD1?! The ones I found were for previous versions.

Interestingly the mods do things like completey removing all or most of the samsung software so I doubt that samsung will deliver a good product. I knew samsung were bad from before but I thought android was an OS so should be different but Google have really made a mistake letting manufacturers have so much say.

moin folks,

sgp/ indonesia is out since last saturday. the whole update took some time for me, but only on account of my net speed here.
i used nps 1.5.something, found it somewhere in this thread. platform is xp sp3. connected the phoneas usual, nps starts, check for new firmware and there it is. took me almost 3 hours to download but then everything worked like a charm. sim + micro sd still in my device, no emergency recovery and things, just pure joy!

i love 2.1! just got a couple questions but ain't the right place here ...

finally after the long wait I am on 2.1 now - updated over the Internet. Works like a charm !! around 30 mins end-to-end (not counting the 2 hours I spent playing around with it after that :)

Btw, I am in Singapore. Used 1.4 NPS running on XP - SP3.
Hope the rest of u can get the update soon.

This sounds promising, if I'm assuming correctly that you've updated via official means

Hi guys. I've been watching this threat for a while. I also got a GT-I5700 and I can't wait to upgrade it to Android 2.1.
I tried NPC 1.3, 1.4 (errors : cannot connect to server/don't support upgrades) and 1.5 (errors : cannot connect to server/update not necessary) ... and i don't want to get an unofficial version.
One thing is for sure. 2.1 IS OUT.
And I'm beginning to think that this is a huge BS from national operators. It looks very suspicions that few ppl from 1 country got it, and other ppl, from same country, can't get it.
I think that this is a marketing strategy or some S**T like that. I refuse to believe that European developers are much slower then Asian or USA developers and that they can't set up some bloody regional settings like Samsung said.

But ... like I said ... this is JUST AN OPINION !!!

this was posterd on the samsung forum dont no if its true

I have heard from a T-mobile employee that T-mobile themselves will be delaying the 2.1 update so they can push sales of their Pulse Mini first.
typical...seems like they've got our money & now don't care about keeping us happy & up-to-date.

so it seems its not samsung delaying it, its T-mobile. The lucky people who got their i5700 on 3 already have 2.1 as standard

Just for info:
Got my Spica today (unbranded from Amazon.de), came with 1.5, I simply used the current version of NPS from the German Samsung website to upgrade it from a 32bit Win XP notebook.
Did take several attempts (including the upgrade freezing seemingly in the middle of the process, telling me, that I had to do an emergency recovery procedure, which, as it turned out, I didn't need, and including a lot of sweating, swearing, panic attacks...) and so on. The NPS is horrible, I gets server timeouts while downloading the binaries all the time, it is slow, badly designed, puts a gazillion entries into the list of installed software and so on...

Long story short: after several attempts, it suddenly worked, went through smoothly, whole process then took only about 10min and I now have a nice 2.1-update1 (XXJCB) which is so far running without problems.

Might be old news by now, in that case see it as just another confirmation that it actually does work through the official process now, though not in smooth war :D.

So the wait is over? Can someone confirm that everyone can officialy update? And also maybe someone could write a short tutorial if it's not just plug in and update?

In Norway the wait is over!

Plug and play, but if there is any persisting problems, try another computer! I was trying to update on my Vista pc with no luck, Changed to my wifes netbook running XP and then it was just plug and play!

I was waiting forever for NPS to unpack the data it was downloading, but the XP netbook fixed that. Even if NPS say, do not disconnect the phone, you might want to disconnect it. The phone will reboot when it's ready to install the update, up to that point I don't think it's a problem disconnecting it.

There was some (as another said) brows trousers moments, but no big deal. It is somewhat scary to flash a phone, there is always some small possibility to brick it.

Good luck everyone with 2.1, I'm loving it!:D
