Help NPS will not connect to my i7500

NPS will reconise that I have two mass storage devices when I connect but will not reconise the thei7500 it's self. Windows also reconises the two storage devices.

I want to upgrade to the new Samsung operating version but as this can only be done via NPS (officially) then I am stuck.

I have Vista 64, and no errors showing in the device manager

Any ideas

The phone is actually a compsite USB device, with multiple id's presented over the single connection. Windows doesnt realise that and only enumerates the storage device.

The easiest way to fix this is to turn on 'usb debugging' on the phone. Its in settings -> applications -> development.

After that windows will recognise a bunch of other devices. If it can't find the driver, point it to the drivers in c:\program files\Samsung etc

You may have one device that doesnt install. Thats the adb driver, you can ignore it as its only needed if you're using the SDK to develop or upload files using adb.

Thanks for this, my phone now appears in NPS but when I click it I get a message saying 'unsupported device'. I've tried updating the driver to no avail. Anu ideas?

NPS still doesnt work for syncing. To firmware update go to the update button on the bottom.

If it still says unsuported device then you probably have a firmware that it doesnt recognise - yeah its a total shambles!

BTW you are using NPS version 1.3.0 H4 right? The 'NPS' update in NPS is useless and always says you have the latest version. You need to download the latest NPS from the samsung web site.

Yeh I've dowmloaded the latest version and am using that 1.3.0 H4 If I click on the update at the bottom and select the update device tab it says 'no device selected' but there is nothing there to select. I'm pi**ed off with it!

Hmm that's odd. Do you see 'i7500' in NPS now?

Unplug the phone and replug it. Make sure you see the two storage devices and i7500 in NPS. Then go to the update button, and select the phone update tab, then you should see the phone there.

What firmware do you have currently on it and where did you buy your phone? (uk, germany, italy etc)

Yeh I see the two drives and the phone. In the update device tab when I select the i7500 I get a message saying 'Device not supported'

It's an O2 phone from the UK firmware 1.5

The firmware should have something like G8 or G6 or H7 etc in it. Check the baseband or modem version in the about screen.

Samsung havnt pushed any O2 uk firmwares out :( Thats why its not working.

Your only option is to use an unofficial method to update. There is a G8 O2 firmware in the other thread which you can use to unofficially downgrade back to an O2 build if you later need to for waranty purposes.

Still its a risk, and upto you if you want to take it.
