Is anyone elses call volume extremely low?

Can't seem to figure out why but the call volume is extremely low on this phone, and I find it hard to hear people, even with the volume way up to the top.

Anyone else having this problem, and are there any fixes or third party apps that will boost the in call volume?

Get a copy of ... https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cb.volumePlus&hl=en ... and see if the various volume controls are all set the way you think they are.

I use ... https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cb.volumePlusPro&hl=en ... and have for many years.

Thanks Thom...unfortunately, my volume levels (in call, etc) are all set to the maximum. This sucks!

They are talking about this at Android Central as well. Here is that thread. They have come to the conclusion that it's where you hold the phone on your ear.

The volume on my Maxx is so good there's times I'm thinking I'm going to blow the speaker. It's THAT loud. If you're having a volume issue I suggest you take it back to VZW.

since the volume levels are all at maximum ... try moving it around on your ear ... I wear hearing aids and have noticed that the Maxx is very particular about placement. If moving it around doesn't help then have someone else try it (like a dealer) and see if it is defective.

Thanks for finding that. Im pretty glad others are having this problem so hopefully they will fix it soon through a small update, etc.

The volume is insanely low during ear to phone calls, but other than that, the volume is exceptional. The speakers, bluetooth call volume, all fantastic.

Problem is for me, that I can barely hear someone when they call me and I am not on bluetooth. Thanks again.

The phone I tested in the noisy Verizon store was fine and the volume on mine is not the loudest but I can hear just fine.

Definitely an issue with the phone.

I have had the same volume issue with my maxx. phone packing date 8/23/13.

Volume was great the first day on phone calls and speakerphone. Then, yesterday the headset volume (at max) was insanely low on calls. It put it on speakerphone (max volume) but could still only make out parts of my call. I rebooted once. I ripped off the otterbox commuter mid-conversation thinking it was covering part of the earpiece speaker. No change. I toggled airplane mode, no change. I DID notice that exactly where I held my ear made a difference--if I didn't hold my ear just over the one thin speaker hole, I would have zero volume.

Then I power cycled a second time. Instantly, symptoms went away. I had to lower earpiece volume quite a bit, and when set loudest it sounds like the person is shouting at me. I put the call on speakerphone and everyone in the car complained it was so loud. When the issue was occurring, the speakerphone call was barely noticeable. In fact, I had to hold the phone an inch or two away from my ear to make out any part of the call .

This is a real problem. Fortunately there is a work-around that for some has worked quite well. When you put the phone against your ear and realize you can't hear the other person, turn the volume DOWN one notch. That's right... turn it down. The volume will jump up to a much higher level. Rebooting only helps for a call or two, this seems to work well without rebooting the phone. I hope they get this fixed soon.

but, I have this problem. Funny thing is...it's not all the time. I can call my brother and he has an iPhone 5, and I can barely hear him at full earpiece volume.

However I can use my YouMail app to listen to my voicemails that someone has left and the volume is plenty loud.

Seems every call is different...but this is aggravating, every other phone I've had has the ability to turn it up loud enough for almost every enviroment.

It's at the point where I want to sell it and get something else.

I've had a Maxx since launch day; I've never had this problem.

I've tried both ways and it seems to be the same.

In fact the only thing that helps is to activate hearing aid mode to increase the volume.

Try a couple of things:

settings / sounds / audio effects. If it is on, does turning it off help?

If not, open the dialer. Tap the menu control bottom right, then settings. Does turning off "voice privacy" help?

Those were the only things that I could think of. Unless there is something wrong with your brother's iPhone 5 (is it only when calling his phone that you have this problem? You didn't say...), I suspect that there is a hardware problem on your phone.

For example, if your brother has a Lifeproof case for the iPhone that would certainly explain the issue, as he is talking through a plastic sheet.

One last thing to try, though, is to start in safe mode, so no third party apps are running in the background, to rule out a problem with an app. To start in safe mode, long-press power as you normally would to bring up the power off dialog, but long-press the "Power Off" control rather than tap it. After a short period, a dialog will confirm if you want to restart in safe mode. If the call still has the volume problem, then perhaps there is something wrong with the radio or something?
