no 1.6 at launch - huh?

oh, you gotta be kidding me!

i don't know how that's possible! its 1.6 that enables CDMA

!!

I have spoken with representatives from HTC, Samsung, and Sprint to confirm that the Hero and Moment will ship with Android 1.5. As many of our regular readers know, T-Mobile began rolling out Android 1.6 last week.

So when will the Sprint Android phones get Android 1.6 and how will it be delivered?

According to both companies, there are no current plans to offer Android 1.6 as an over the air update. Samsung has indicated they will offer Android 1.6 in early 2010 and it will be available as a PC download. HTC said the Android 1.6 update is yet to be determined and is also leaning towards an update method involving the PC.

wtf?!

Oh that' sucks, especially if they do a PC only update, they're leaving the Mac users out of the loop. Hmm, now I might just hold off until I know Sprint is delivering with 1.6 installed.

I use Mac's as well. When this is released will I be able to just hope on a friend's PC, download it and install it?

I might have to install Windows on my Mac.

After reading the full article I'm seriously considering holding off on the purchase of the Hero.

This just sucks the big one.

"Sprint phones will also lack the new Android Market that is packaged with Android 1.6. The new quick search box, camera, gesture controls, and all other enhancements will have to wait till 2010."

Holding off? *GGASSSPPPP**

ill just update to 1.6 when its available

Just found this about 1.6.

The HTC Hero recently received a software (ROM) update, improving the performance of the handset. However, the firmware version of Android remained at v1.5 (Cupcake). The next firmware update (v1.6 – codenamed Donut) will not be released until October. Sprint users will be happy to know that its HTC Hero handset will have v1.6 installed out of the box, according to Pocket-Lint.

Guess we'll have to wait until Friday to find out

Yeah they got their info from PocketLint also. I just called Sprint Tech Support the dude acted as if he's never heard of the Hero.
HA. Typcial. It never gets old does it?

Do you think sometimes they lie, just so you will leave them alone? Imagine all the calls they must be getting lately, I bet it would feel good once in awhile to just say "Hero? Nope, we dont carry that. Is there anything else I can assist you with today?"
