What would you buy if your amaze died today?

I have had my Amaze for a few years now and it has served me well. I have no plans to replace it anytime soon and other than the fact that it does not get updates anymore it does everything I want and more.

However from time to time I fantazise about getting a new phone but everytime I pick a potential "replacement" its too expensive and by the time I get used to the price there is something else looming that makes me think "im glad I kept the Amaze".

So the question is what would you replace the Amaze with if it died today??

With no budget, I'd get:
Samsung Galaxy Note 3
HTC One
Samsung Galaxy S4

Of course, i can't afford any of those. The Amaze has a great camera and runs pretty fast (when rooted). The current ROMs are very good.

I use my amaze as a lab rat in xda. I use an S3. HIGHLY recommended to get a Samsung phone. HTC doesn't care about its older loyal users who had the Amaze, sensation, etc. Samsung updated the S2 to JB and we were still on ICS.

If you want to future proof your phone, get an S4, or the Nexus 5. Some south Asian guy (probably Indian) who took a picture of the KIT KAT 4.4 statue accidentally leaked it. It looks pretty big, and with a bigger lens. But we'll see! :)

Ok if you want to future proof youre phone id go with the nexus 5.
The Tmobile S4 hasnt been updated since like the first week it came out and all the other variants have been updated. Even though we have Google Edition Roms, id still like to see updated touch wiz roms.
And Yes it was leaked through a video which google pulled from the internet.

Interesting how many think the Samsung would be their choice (or is now). I had an S3 and felt it was a good phone - I replaced my HTC Desire with it. However after it died in a rainstorm (it was in my wifes bag with her iPhone which was fine) I decided to go back to HTC.

I found the Samsung to be quite flimsy compared to the HTC products but I guess if you swap your phone every couple of years that's not an issue.

Its also interesting that one of the reasons folks move from HTC is lack of support for "older" phones with software updates.

Maybe its a bit like the removable battery/SD card issue?

How much are these things truly a problem? Possible security updates might figure in the decision

I'm not so sure that it is that big an issue but then I am not a "power user" - I don't use Facebook, Twitter or any Social media. I use it primarily for phone, text, maps, camera a bit of web browsing and the odd game.It does those things well for me.

I'd stick with HTC but I'd like to be able to run vanilla Android - that way I can keep up with security updates and then have the option of adding some of the "bloatware" if I wanted it

If that's the case you should probably go with the HTC One. You can do the mods and get a Google edition ROM then.

I dislike HTC after the Amaze, they completely tried to destroy the Amaze. It had absolutely no support after the ICS update. They took it off the website, the Sensation was still there! Meanwhile the S2 got Jellybean. Really HTC... -_-

HTC isn't doing that well because they're not supporting their users. Putting your older users on the guillotine immediately after the One s is released is not a good way to keep customers lol.

Hardware isn't a problem I just throw a case on my phones anyway. :p

Very true on the fact that HTC tried and successfully killed the Amaze. As for hardware wise. The s4 is a pretty tough phone. I've dropped it lots of times and it hasn't broken yet. But i did just order a seido obex case which is a waterproof case so I shouldn't have the rainstorm problem :p

The Amaze has serious battery/tethering issues.

So I ordered LG Optimus F3,
Here are the bullet points as to why the LG Optimus F3 is the right upgrade.
1. Better battery life.
2. Price
3. LTE and HSPA+42.2mbps

The HTC One look nice and all, but is it really worth the price?
The HTC One Mini also looks nice but again, Only someone watching videos/playing games frequently on their phone would benefit from these devices.
With the HTC Flagship devices you will have battery issues as bad or worse than the amaze.

If you are a casual gamer/occasional streaming video watcher, the LG Optimus F3 is priced to go.

With the HTC Flagship devices you will have battery issues about the same as Amaze's battery issues, Not to mention HTC may go bankrupt and close up shop.

I'm curious as to what source you're basing your ONE battery claims on.

Sure, HTC has been down on its luck the last few years, but its not going to close up shop. Companies can go bankrupt and still operate.

Well, I got just enough money to get an S3. Super, I'll be heading to the S3 XDA forums, if you still have your S3. I passed along my GNote 1 to my wife who wanted the bigger screen:D

I think if I change phones in the near future I'll stick with HTC and get the One. I quite like the front facing speakers having used an Asus tablet with the speakers in the rear - a real pain. I also like the heft of HTC.

I agree that HTC don't do all that well in supporting older phones and I'd rather have a plain Android phone with the option to add some of the features automatically included in the usual Bloatware. Some of those things are fine but other stuff I can do without.

I may have to go the Google Edition way but I'll need to do a bit more investigating before I take that step - I have never rooted any of my phones yet but maybe that is an option. I could do it with the Amaze before I move on and that way if I brick it its not such a big deal.

If you root and flash a custom ROM on your Amaze, it will be like having a completely new phone. The ROMs are really good.

I've never done a a root & flash yet but have been tempted. I guess the ROMS for the Amaze must be pretty stable given how long they have been out. I am not so sure about some later attempts but then I confess to not really following custom ROMS too closely as its never been an issue

Maybe time to hunt one out and try one. I can always update my phone if it all goes pear shaped.
