Verizon pre-order questions

I'm likely going to preorder the phone tomorrow morning when the site goes live. I have a few questions about the process though since I've never done this before.

I'm still grandfathered on unlimited and I'm not sure tomorrow when I preorder will it prompt me to either buy outright or upgrade through the special Edge plan with 6gb? Or I wonder if it will even offer me the new Edge deal or just offer the standard plans?

Since I've never had a phone this large, should I not like it and decide to return it within the 14 day period can I go back to unlimited if I choose the Edge plan tomorrow instead of buying it outright?

Thanks!

You will probably want to order through Verizon phone support, and make sure you tell the rep you're buying it month to month, full retail, outright. NOTHING CHANGES on your plan. Get their name. Record the call if it's legal to do so where you live. That way, if they SAY nothing changes and then it DOES, you have evidence ;)

Some people run the numbers and find Edge a worthwhile switch: I don't. I'll cling to unlimited as long as I possibly can... which means full retail from here on out.

Although this may be old news to many, there is a Verizon Wireless website for ordering phones at full retail, which allows you to keep your Unlimited Data (assuming you still have it. The link is:

https://preorder.verizonwireless.com/iconic/

Once you sign in as an "Existing Customer", be sure to check the icon for "Device without Wireless", which is for shopping for phones with no annual contract. This is how I expect to get the Note 3 while retaining my unlimited.

So what is my recourse if I end up thinking it's too big for me and need to return it. Is this possible when buying outright like this?

Below is a copy of my transcript with Verizon chat. Sounds like they'll let me back in to unlimited if I need to return it. Sweet!

Your RealTime session ID is RT27185617588.
You are now chatting with 'Christina'
You: James

Christina: Hi! My name is Christina with the Verizon Wireless Sales Team. I am available to answer your questions and help you place an order. May I have your name, please?

me: James
Christina: Hey James! How may I assist you today?

me: I'm looking to preorder the Note 3 tomorrow when it's available and I have a few questions regarding the process...

Christina: I'd be happy to answer any questions you have today!

me: I'm currently grandfathered with unlimited and would prefer to stay this way, so i realize my only way to keep it is to buy the phone outright, correct?

Christina: That is correct.

me: If buying outright can I return it with the normal 14 day window?

Christina: You can return it in those 14 days.

me: Awesome. Next question...

Christina: What is your next one?

me: I am tempted at jumping on the deal you have for people like me to get the 6gb Edge plan for $30, is that going to be available when preordering too?

me: Or am I simply reserving the phone tomorrow and then when it's delivered I'll have to make a decision on plans, etc?

Christina: The Edge program will be eligible, and that 6GB for $30 is only available when you do Edge. Those will both be available when you preorder.

me: So assuming I end up doing the edge program tomorrow at preorder time, if I have to return it do I go back to my unlimited plan as I was before?

Christina: You will be able to go back as long as you return the device in 14 days.

me: Awesome, so just to recap. If I buy the phone tomorrow with the Edge 6gb plan and decide to return it within 14 days of receiving it I'll be reinstated with my grandfathered unlimited plan?

Christina: Yes, that is correct!

me: Beautiful. Thanks! Will any of this affect my wife who I share a family plan with? Or does the 6gb plan basically replace my portion of the unlimited?

Christina: Your calling plan will not change, only your data. Hers will stay the exact same as it is now.

me: I believe you've answered all my questions, thanks!

Christina: Can I help you with anything else today?

me: Do you happen to have preorder link?

Christina: I have no information about that phone yet, so I do not.

me: gotcha

Christina: What else can I do for you?

me: That'll do it

Christina: Thank you for visiting Verizon Wireless; I'm glad I was able to help you today! At the end of this chat there is an opportunity for you to provide your feedback based on your experience with me today and to receive a copy of the chat. We would very much appreciate your thoughts.

Well this makes me curious now, I had the impression from reading a few forums that in order to get the 6gb max plan for $30 I was going to have to pay full retail using their edge payment plan. If the guy I just talked to through chat is to be believed, I can buy the phone at the subsidized price but I have to trade my unlimited for 6gb. Which for me, 6gb is about the amount I use each month anyway. I'll be saving around $600, assuming the contract price is $300 and the outright price is $850+tax. Aside from selling my soul what am I missing here?

We have a business plan and when I called the rep told me "NO ONE YEAR CONTRACT ON NOTE 3" but I ended the call and went online there it was on the drop down: ONE YEAR which I only ever take on a phone so don't always believe what they tell you on the phone. Ordered under my sons line (had to do that last year to keep my unlimited) so I'm hoping I can just pop my old sim card in and activate under my line. Not sure if that Edge plan is beneficial to them or the customer.

When logged into your account select upgrade device. It will show up there. For some reason just searching on the site doesn't work. It only worked when I went the upgrade device route.

Ninja'd :)

I went that route but get an error message every time I hit "next".

Please return to verizonwireless.com after the completion of this order to process a separate transaction for the removed items."
