N1, Droid, Iphone, which is better?

So, I have seen tons of debate as to which one is better, N1, Droid, or Iphone. So for the past 2 weeks I did as much research as I could in order to bring you the honest truth. (these are unrooted)

First lets look at cpu

N1: snapdragon 1ghz - 2000dmips

Droid; cortex A8 550mhz - 1100dmips

Iphone: cortex A8 600mhz - 1200dmips

so here in regards to cpu, the clear winner is the N1, but we all new that. But of course you can always root your Droid and get similar performance to the N1, and idk if the Iphone can be clocked up, please let me know if you know. But really none of these are going to be a limiter for your system. all 3 are more then capable processors and will provide a great experience, so I'd really call it a tie, but for raw power the N1 wins.

Screen

N1: 800 x 480 px (PenTile RGBG), 3.7 in (94 mm), 252.15 ppi, 3:5 aspect ratio, WVGA, AMOLED with 100,000:1 contrast ratio and 1 ms response rate

Droid:854 x 480 px TFT LCD, 3.7 in (94 mm), 16:9 aspect ratio, WVGA, 265 pixels per inch (ppi)

Iphone: 320

The only thing i will argue with you is, the storage, you see, the problem with the iphone is you can either get 16gb iphone OR 32gb iphone...thats it...whereas with the Droid/N, yeah you can start off with 16gb, but ON THE SAME phone, WITHOUT having to buy a completely new phone, upgrade the storage from 16gb to 32GB..thats called expandability and the iPhone doesn't have that, it was one of my gripes with it...so no, i don't believe the iPhone comes out on top there...

Also, until OS4.0 comes out, no, the iPhone can't multitask....so the processors on the Droid/N1 are handling a much higher load than the iPhone...and remember i believe only the iPhone 3gs will be able to update to that...so thats a another new phone an iPhone user has to buy...

OK, I didnt include call quality because I couldn't immediately test that feature. I included the things I was able to test and confirm with my limited ability to do so. I didnt include desire, x10, etc. because this isnt about them, its about the N1, Droid, and Iphone (the X10 is sick though! XD) I compared these as a price is not an option, this is a non-network performance comparison. I did take into account the higher load on the android devices, and since we have no way to test the OS 4.0 multitask results we cant say if this will all still ring true then. I believe apple made a wise decision in not having it till now because it reduces load and there for overall image of performance. I did say though that cpu wise they are all really generally the same. I also did state that the Droid and N1 could be upgraded, but they also have far less app storage and they also cannot be upgraded past the Iphone. They all have the same max storage, but the Iphone has more space for apps. I completely agree that thee Iphone sucks in that if you want more space you got to buy a new one, but the fact that you can have higher quality games, etc. due to more space for apps is undeniable. This all really comes down to two things to test which is "better" (which is better is really just your preference) and thats gpu power and app storage, which Iphone wins. Now we can also include the # of apps, which Iphone also wins. I didnt inlcude that though because I feel android is not mature enough for that comparison and we are just seeing the android market start to really boom. I am a huge android supporter so this includes no love for apple, I would never buy one of their products, this is just what I have determined from my research and limited ability to test. Now I will also state though that I dont consider the Iphone a "smartphone" like the Droid and N1, I consider the Iphone a multimedia phone. Thanks for the comments guys =) keep them coming

iPhone hands down because it has the best working touch screen. Nobody can even compare to the multitouch on iphones. I get irritated that my droid gets wrong letters and can't do certain things because I'm so used to the nice iphone multitouch

I agree.

I don't care what the specs say or what is technically better, I only care about real-world usage. And for me, the iphone is waaaay ahead of any other phone I've tried. I've the N1 and while I like it, the iphone screen, as far as touch capability goes, is far far superior.

Hmmm... I'd take Moto's superior call quality (better than all the manufacturers combined), Iphone's slick UI, N1's build quality, X10's styling with its skin, Android Froyo and mixed them up to come up with a perfect phone.

Ok, enough of dreaming! It is difficult to really pick a winner among those but given those choices I'd go with the N1. It is overall a good phone compared to the rest. I just wish it had a TI OMAP processor than Snapdragon but for now that'll do.

Okay... here's what I don't understand. Why do people who like the iPhone so damn much come to Android Forums and try to convince us that the iPhone is supperior to our amazing Android devices and post iCrap all over the place? We don't go to any iPhone forums and try to convince people there to buy an Android devices, tell them that their iPhone sucks, and fill their forums with crap. You're fighting a losing battle here...

That's easy. They're incredibly insecure little children. You know Android is great, I know it is great, we're both to busy enjoying our devices to troll Apple fantards. They, on the other hand, know deep down that they're using a deeply flawed piece of shit they got because they are sheep, so they news to posture and flail too salve their pride and stupidity.

Precisely...

I also see that with Xbox owners coming to the PS3 forums... They jumped onto the first train that arrived at the station, and now sorely regret it.

In regards to multitouch, android deices do have it, as of 2.X. From my use I dont feel the Iphone has superior multitouch, in fact the multitouch on my G1 works better than on my friends 3GS, it reallly depends on the software. Now I was unable to test call quality for all 3 on the same network so I didnt feel I could really do it because that would come down to who has that better network in my area. The Iphones hardware also is not out of date, the snapdragon uses the same instruction sets as cortex-A8, in fact it is essentially a reworked A8. The snapdragon gpu is actually a rebranded ATI Z430 from 2004 that qualcomm is still milking from their deal with ATI.The Z430 is actually based on the Xenos used in the XBOX360. Snapdragon has also existed for about 2 years now, since Q1 2008. They are all within the same generation, with the snapdragon gpu being the one thats actually out of date, that making it more impressive that it can still keep up.

True, we're more than happy to dump it on our own doorstep. Have you checked out some of the general sub-forums recently? ;)

If you're referring to the OP then we'll have to disagree. It didn't read (to me) as anything other than a comparison of the most obvious (to a buyer) features. It actually invites discussion and debate, which is far more helpful to prospective Android converts than hollow praise or insulting replies.

Definitely not referring to the OP... it was an awesome idea for a thread. I won't name any usernames though. ;)

That is exactly the reason I even started this thread =) I have found to much claiming such and such is better with no real reason behind it (hollow praise). None of these phones I would consider vastly superior, this is a thread that was made to invite discussion on these phones and their pros, cons, and features. I could have included more phones, but these are the flagship phones people have been hearing about (the Droid has become the face of android now) I invite anyone to do any tests they can and add them to the thread. I was not able to do a ton of test, just posted the ones I could do (I dont own the phones, just borrowed them for a short time for testing), and did my best to provide useful research. In fact , if anyone can do some tests and research on other devices and provide me the results I'll gladly add them to the thread.
