Should I de-brand my Orange Desire?

Not sure what the latest ver from HTC is??

What are the pros and cons?

I de-branded my previous phone, Nokia N95, from Orange and that gave me much quicker updates.

I am routing mine as soon as possible - cannot be doing with the restrictions (no gTalk etc)

The folks will correct me if i am wrong, but i think it voids your warranty if you do it....my feelings on it are simple, flash a generic OS and use the phone the way it was intended!

Got a question regarding debranding. Once the handset has the generic ROM installed will it receive the OTA updates that a normal generic handset would?

Would the gold card be needed each time you wanted to update to a newer release of the generic rom?

That is the most recent 2.1 update, Orange software versions are different to HTC's, see the Update - Desire entry here.

I'm also wondering whether to debrand, can't really see any benefit at the moment, other than gTalk (which I dont use). I would like to get rid of some of the stock game demo icons though. If updates come out and are slow to be picked up by Orange, I guess I will at some point.

I'm the same, I can live with the branding at the moment, it's no great shakes. but if I see a wad of updates coming out and we Orange-ites miss out, I wont be too happy

If I were you guys I would wait until rooting is available, and do that instead of going to the generic ROM now. But then again if you dont need gTalk there or apps2sd there isnt much point.

PS - Lekky, can you point me somewhere that has info on 'Bluetooth voice activated dialing' for the Desire. My old N95 had it but my Ford BT says "not possible"...Or should I put this subject up as a new thred?

I flashed mine recently from orange to generic and it went fine, i just prefer not to have orange branding in the phone.
