Palm Pre + vs Incredible

Hi everyone,

I'm new here. So, I've had the Palm Pre + since April 3rd. I really like WebOS but there are some serious hardware issues (I have the sticky keys problem - and am already on my 3rd device - argh). I'm thinking of switching to an Incredible since I'm still within my 30 days, but I'm afraid it will be too complicated compared to WebOS (which, let's face it, is super easy to use).

I'd appreciate any feedback, especially if anyone here has switched from a Pre+ to an android phone (or vice versa). Thanks!

It shouldn't be complicated once you use it for a few days to adjust and I don't think you will ever look back. Go with the Incredible is my advice.

I bought a Pre Plus the day it came out and used it alongside my Droid. Needless to say, the Pre was sold on ebay within the week. WebOS is easy to use but with some time, you'll be used to Android in no time. If anything, you could always go to a Verizon store and play with either of the Droid phones they have in stock (or even wait until the Incredible is on display) to give you an idea before you purchase

I'll be making the same switch. I also have a new Pre but then this release date was announced (finally!) and I am switching. Nothing against the Pre but this should be a whole lot better. I'm not worried about running it. I think you definitely just get used to whatever you have. Start with the basics and learn a bit more as you go and soon it will be mastered.

There are also 2 Android phones in the house with other family members, and I do fine playing around with those and going back and forth to my Pre. I would expect the same experience with this one.

Another thing to consider is the future of Palm. Right now the vultures are circling, HTC turned down an offer to buy leaving Palm with very few choices. Because of this, developers are more likely to hold back on new or updating apps with the uncertainty. Many reviews have said the WebOS is the best multitasking OS out there with the card system, but the questions of Palm's future negate that.

Future looks to be a 3 horse raise between Windows, Apple and Android.

You may want to return it now and get out while you can.

"the future of Palm" is a good thing to consider indeed. Their future is certain death IMHO. The only devices they've put out recently that have gotten any attention are the Pre, and not all the 20 people who bought it are happy with it--which obviously brings us to the OP's query.

Get the Incredible--no sticky keys problem!! In terms of WebOS being easier, I don't believe that will be the case for you. The only thing I think you will have trouble with on Android is coming to a decision as to how to customize your phone--since there are a million ways (literally) right out of the box!

I don't see windows mobile to be a major player imo, all the good phones are coming out for the droid platform and apple has a good reputation for hardware that just works. Imo windows mobile will take a distant 3rd and will be the next os to be abandoned by hardware and software developers. The android platform needs some work, its still rough around the edges but it starting to really show some signs of improvement. Imo right now its a 2 horse race.

I use the Palm Pre Plus at work,
I like the phone quite a bit, but I feel that it is a girlish device.
However it does come with a FREE Hot Spot, similar to the Mifi where up to 5 device can connect to the internet using the Palm Pre Plus as a modem. (normally $40 a month)

Very well put, I believe that Android is the most user-friendly OS that is on the market and combine that with what is without doubt going to be the best phone on the market and you have a guaranteed winner!

Besides my malfunctioning keyboard, the uncertain future of PALM is kind of the clincher for me. The apps already kinda stink, and we are still waiting for our next update, so I can't imagine how bad it will be if PALM goes under.

I almost bought the PalmPre because of this offer. It was almost too good to pass up until I went and lurked in the forums and found out it doesn't work well with Apple devices like my iPod touch or my iPad. So I ordered the Incredible and am hoping they offer wireless tethering someday.

Since i saw the "jon4lakers" youtube guy review, i was totally sold in the incredible.

He is a notorious apple guy and usually slams anything that is not apple.. But he had nothing bad to say about the incredible.

Had palm for over a decade. I was very disappointed with pre. Software was good....but s..l...o...w.

Switched to android (eris) and love it. So many ways to customize it. Make the switch....you will be happy.

To the OP my wife just got a palm pre and as far as she is concerned she likes it a lot (previous phone was and envy). She did recieve the update today 1.04.0 or something along those lines, My incredible will be here next weeek so if you are willing to hold out I can give you a straight across review/somparison.

If Palm had some better/more hardware, it would be tempting to go the WebOS route. Everyone I have heard from loves the OS, but feels meh about the hardware. The free mobile hotspot feature was intriguing, but the absolute power of the Incredible has me sold.

I was all set to return my Pre today so I could do my Incredible pre-order online. I showed up with all my stuff to do the return, but the rep talked me out of it (for now). He said I could sure do it but would like me to actually get my hands on one first to make sure because this is the only return I will get. He said he's played with the Incredible and he didn't seem to be a big fan. He thought I would like the Pre better. I told him I was fine with waiting til the phones came in but I was worried about that because if they are always sold out when I drive there (not in the town I live in), then my 30 days could be up before I even get one. He said he could put my name on one so I could come in and have a chance to play with one after release date but he can't show me one before that time.

So, I left with my Pre still in my possession and no pre-order, so it was kind of disappointing but I hope this all works out. Now I'm worried about why he didn't seem thrilled with the phone. Called it "different," I think. The touch system was one thing he mentioned but I don't know what in particular and I don't think he could really say much more.

I wouldn't say it's questionable, I would say it's fairly final. They're done.

I went through 5 Pre's and just got fed up with the crappy build quality. Trading in your Pre will just result in the same issues. I ditched my Pre and actually went back to my Storm, which I hate, until the Incredible was launched. There is more development for Android, see SlingPlayer for one, and the hardware is far superior to the Palm. I loved the OS, but the questionable future and hardware drove me away.

The WebOS is probably the best mobile OS out there, but even with the added RAM, the OS is still too sluggish for a superuser. Like many have pointed out, the biggest drawback from it is the hardware. If they came out with a large touchscreen phone, they could have a market real quick.
