Ok sorry for the stupid question but been using iPhone since the original Droid and just came back to the Droid maxx

Question is everytime you pull the phone out of your pocket or pick it up the screen comes on causing a double unlock since i use pattern unlock. Is there anyway to shut this off?

I understand the question, but don't understand what you're trying to avoid.

If you don't want to "swipe down to wake" after pulling out from your pocket, then you press the power button to go straight tho the pattern unlock screen.

With any other phone, it's the same two-step process. But I find the screen swipe more natural since I don't have to reposition my thumb to the button.

If you want one step, you can disable pattern unlock. But I know if no way to make pattern unlock the first screen upon pulling the phone from the pocket.

You can turn off pattern unlock and change it to "none" (in settings, security and screen lock) or, if you need the security of pattern lock, change "automatically lock after sleep" to a high time (the highest is 30 minutes, which means that if the phone is unlocked and the goes to sleep, you will not need the pattern lock until 30 minutes goes by). In that case you probably also want to set "power button automatically locks" off.

Note that you can also turn off active notifications off in settings, active notifications, so you'll always need to press the power button to power on.

I thought of one other thing (and how I forgot it, I'm not sure, because I have this set up) - if you have a Bluetooth device that is always with you, you can set it up as a trusted Bluetooth device. As long as the trusted bluetooth device and your phone are paired, after an initial unlock with pattern, the phone will stay unlocked until you disconnect from the BT device, restart the phone, or (I think...) click the option in the notification pulldown to stop the automatic unlock.
