How many of you S4 owners have had to exchange your phone for some issue or another.. I am just trying to determine what phone I want and the other phone I am looking at is the MAXX and I know how Motorola's track record has been with me with the Droid X and droid bionic.. My RAZR MAXX had been okay until recently

Not me. Had my Dev Edition 2 months now. Running Hyperdrive rom. Happy as a Skylark.

as the galaxy s4 is the top selling android phone, i can safely say most people have not had problems with their phone.

The only issue I've had is one time I left it in my room and when I came back and grabbed it it was running super hot. The battery had also significantly drained itself. I'm not sure why. I restarted it, and it hasn't done it since. Hopefully it won't happen again and I won't have any other issue with it.

Just because it is top selling does not mean it is issue free..

I think the latest Maxx will better than previous. I have both previous Maxx's. The camera sucked but the battery life and call quality was awesome. Android on the Maxx was also really close to stock Android which I liked. Camera is good on the S4 but battery is nowhere near the Maxx.

Considering the millions of S4s sold and the relatively tiny number of people here, you are not going to get any useful indication of the level of problems from 20 odd responses.

No phones are free of problems but the S4 is a great phone that stands comparison with anything available at the moment.

You should choose the phone that is right for you based on the feature sets of the two not on a statistically insignificant bunch of replies on a web forum, but FWIW (i.e. nothing) mine has been faultless.

I have been following this forum since the phone came out. There have been a few people who have had problems but my perception is that it is very much in line with previous phones I have had both from Samsung and Apple.

To actually answer your question, yes, I had to exchange my first S4 for a new one due to the overcharge-shutoff situation that I posted about.

It does not mean it is issue free, but it gives a very good indication.

How true. I have had mine since June and the only issue I had, was not enough internal memory in the 16GB version. Took it back for the 32GB version and love it. (I'm on AT&T)

No phone is perfect. Choose the one you want and go for it.

That being said, I exchanged a perfectly good GN2 for a perfectly good GS4/16 for a perfectly good GS4/32.

The S4 positive is the battery can be replaced but I don't want to be tied to a charger if possible..

My RAZR Maxx I have now will last one day, it has degraded quite a bit in the last year.

The MHL option of the S4 is also a positive.

Just unknown how we'll the radio is compared to Motorola

Some folks still live with and love a dumb phone. How can you go wrong with any of your choices? Analysis paralysis can keep you out of a perfectly good and functional device. And since individual usage varies widely, what works best for one person may not be the best choice for another.

The choice has to be yours.

Historically Moto has better radio's (although I've hit a few dude phones)

One of the reasons I'm a BIG fan of replaceable batteries, is given that cell phone batteries get used heavily, you should expect the battery's performance to degrade about 20-30% minimum over a year. That's ANY battery in any phone.

All of mine have. I have had 5 smartphones and I am still using two of them (iPhone 5 and S4) so I can't say about those but I am prepared to bet they last two years just as my previous three (two iPhones and an S2) have and indeed, were in excellent condition when I sold them without a mark on them and still fully functional in every way.

No smartphone has what used to be regarded as good battery life (my last feature phone's battery lasted 5 days easily) but as long as it gets you through a day, that's good enough. One really positive feature about the S4 is the removable battery. I carry two charged batteries around with me in my bag and it takes about a minute to swap batteries. Try doing that with an iPhone or an HTC One.

i had an issue when i first got the phone with callers hearing an echo on their end. exchanged the phone within first 3 days and haven't had an issue with the replacement. Phone is awesome just make sure you put a screen protector and case on it. Quality of plastic case is low and it gets damaged easily with light drops w/o a case. As for screen its gorilla glass which makes it harder to make big scratches but little ones are easier than most screens (first one scratched before the 3 days even when it was only thing in my pocket). Spec and use wise, this is leaps and bounds above my Incredible or Rezound.

Having had a 1st and 2nd gen Maxx and now an S4 I'd go with the current gen Maxx simply based on the interface, battery, Motorola radio alone. Quite honestly the S4 touchwiz interface is annoying compared to the Maxx interface which is really close to vanilla android.

I think it is probably hard to figure since it's still relatively early with respect to the phone's release. I mean, I had no problems with my Bionic at all, until one day, a number of months in, it just dropped dead. Fully charged battery; phone wouldn't turn on. But there were no signs of problems before that. I think it's still too early to tell with the S4 whether this thing will be solid.

As for the radios, the best thing I can say is to find a friend or neighbor your area with each phone and see for yourself how the reception is. When I had the Bionic, it couldn't hold a 4G signal in my house to save its life. I took a test drive of an s3, and it had 4 solid bars. So moving to the Galaxy line from the Motos was sort of a no-brainer for me. But that's just my own personal living room -- ymmv.
