Root [International] Rooted Galaxy S4 GT-I9505 corrupts music library;

Dear All,

First post in here so bear with me while I catch up.
Web developer here trying to get to grips with rooting brand new Galaxy S4.
I scouted the net for correct info on how to root and install custom recovery and finally managed to root using a HOWTO from here using ODIN on windows although I am a mac user.
First of all I have a 64GB sd card installed on my phone formatted and filled with mp3 files imported using Kies(Mac) that play perfectly using the 3/samsung stock firmware.
Unfortunately once I have managed to root and install custom recovery only (not custom rom - although I have already tried several of them of which Foxhound is my favorite) in order to have the stock volume increased, the majority of the music files seems to be corrupted and either the stock music player or others fail to play these files.

I have had to unroot the device and re-installed stock 3/samsung rom form sammobile for the files to be recognized again but only wiping the sdcard and re-importing the files via kies or android file transfer app.

Is anyone aware of any fix or having same issues with rooted device?

Furthermore I thought that my sdcard was corrupted and therefore tried several of them but to no avail as issue continued happening.

Is this an issue specifically related to the Galaxy S4?

I previously owned a Galaxy S3 which was rooted and had custom rom installed and never experience a similar issue.

Meanwhile can anyone suggest a way I can increase the sound volume using stock rom without rooting the device?

Thank you very much in advance.

Hi, the simplest way I've found is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=42116378. You do have to be rooted with a custom recovery I'm afraid, but does the trick just by flashing the zip in your custom recovery.

Sorry, don't know the solution to your problem, but all mp3s on my sd card working fine after rooting and flashing this, without corruption, so keep trying!!

On my previous Galaxy S3, when I rooted, it also corrupted my music library and as soon as I opened Music Player it would force close. I then unrooted and reinstalled the stock firmware and restored to factory settings but that didn't fix the issue so I sold the bloody phone and won't ever root even if would enable my phone to cook me breakfast! I can't deal with these quirks as I am a perfectionist

There is always the risk of things not working if you don't root correctly or fiddle with settings and/or system files if you don't know what you're doing. But there's nothing wrong with rooting par se, berry racer. Thousands of us do it all the time without these issues :), although I can understand how one bad experience may make you wary

Does that mod affect in-call volume as well as music volume syd?

Nice one Syd! You're not just a pretty face... sorry, that should read, "even", not, "just".

The Moderate .zip is plenty good enough. It enhances all the sound settings but not the in-call volume.

Finally! I can listen to the amazing lyrics of the song that my mother used to play to me, here.

I think she hated me. :frown:

" I know that she knows, that....... " Sorry, sorry, completely off topic. Ironass it could be worse, I remember my Mum singing this : http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-EpWOzIzhf8&desktop_uri=/watch?v=-EpWOzIzhf8

Thanks Syd, the "moderate" mod is plenty loud enough. Any other gems you'd like share after trawling the endless and often hostile pages of the brown and beige site.

I did actually come across a zip that wakes your phone by blowing it. Yes really. It actually worked, sort of. But blowing your phone is not really something to be done in polite company so I removed it!

I'll have you know my Galaxy is female, and a fine sounding one at that.

In fact why don't you do a thread on CWM flashable .zips. You could post the links. It's something to do while we wait for the devs to crack the bootloader issue and a workaround for Knox.
