Had phone for a month. Something is eating my battery. I have downloaded software for apps and followed tutourials for saving battery life.

Recently my battery is draining fast. Last problem I had was with a music app. It got stuck downloading a song and forced itself to shut down. I then had a google error with a services not responding causing my phone to be slow and unresponsive.

I had to reinstall google store and had to clear the cache and restart google framework to fix the issuea and to get google store working.

I dont know why my battery is draining and is feeling warm. Not hot warm.

What kind of phone do you have?

You should look at what apps are using the most battery and then you can disable/uninstall Andy apps you don't need.

I have a samsung galaxy s4. I got rid of alot of apps. Ebay tsb and some software to help battery. Its recently that started to happen.

Hello and welcome to the forums. I understand your having a problem with a battery . Are you rooted if so clear the stats from a apk . If it don't work . Drain battery down to where the phone powers off . Now plug in charger if the phone charges up in 25-30 minutes . Yes fully charged that fast you have a bad battery . It may not be the apks .

Before you do anything drastic, try these little freebies:

Battery Hero, to turn stuff off when the screen is off, and

Connection Manager, an data on/off widget.

With the help of these two, I get home with 85-95% remaining, depending on what I do. If I’m online a lot, all bets are off.

What is the ambient temp of your truck during the day? If you've been leaving it in your truck all day every day, ambient temps above 100 degrees will absolutely shorten the life of your battery.

I'm not at all surprised that the battery lasted only 5-6 months in that situation. Actually I'm impressed it lasted that long.

Take your battery out of your phone and place it on a completely level surface. If you can push down on one corner of the battery and get any kind of spin (check both sides), it's started to swell and is definitely a bad battery.

Dmx, do u have Google services running your location? If you look at ur battery info it should tell you what's eating it up.
For me it's almost always my screen, even though i have it set to auto. Recently tho, ive noticed a huuge drain. Phone said Google services were the culprit. So aside from turning off all gps, as im sure u already know, go into google settings and dont allow it to pick up ur location. You'll lose certain cards and things, but it should help battery.

I narrowed mine down to this. I turned off location services in the maps app and my battery doubled. Basically my phone was just pinging my location all day. Went from 12 hours and 2 screen hours to over 24 hours and over 4 hours screen time.

16 core?! Why does anyone need that much in their PHONE? They can't even fix issues with the quad core versions... i honestly dont even think the processors in the phones now are even being utilized to their potentials. Marketing ploys i tell you

I went into the developer mode and disabled all the bloatwear that I don't use, all the crap that comes with the phone. That saved me tons of battery not to have that crap running in the background. Try that.

If I may throw in my two cents, we see a lot of people complaining in posts about their degraded battery life. My feeling is that these folks are in the unfortunate minority. You probably aren't going to get on a forum to talk about battery life that is performing as expected.

In reality, you should not have to download battery saving apps, or delete other apps, or turn off bluetooth/gps/data/etc. I have background syncing on, i have bluetooth/gps/data/etc. on at all times, i have tons of apps that are up and running in the background, etc. All of these items and I'm still seeing upwards of 16-18 hours of battery life each day (easily gets me through the day without charging - unless I watch a lot of videos/etc.).

If you are truly having that bad of a battery life even after following all of our member's tricks and tips (which i don't necessarily see as all that helpful), then its probably just a bad battery. Take it in where you got the phone and see if they'll replace it... or if you have to, buy a new one. This is going to provide you the best results. Good luck!

the unit is barely a month old. . reason for asking is that we all know that galaxy units are known for their "a bit" short battery span..

This is absolutely not true.

To group them as "Galaxy Units" is gross negligence.

Most new users jump to conclusion, have very little knowledge of how Android works, and assume they know better than the skilled engineers that created them.

They look for a quick fix like an app rather than learn how to check the setup of their device.

With preferences set properly I'm enjoying terrific battery life on my box stock S4.

My wife's Galaxy S4 has about 80% battery remaining at the end of the day while my HTC EVO 4G LTE has about 40% (or less) at the end of the day. While we are not power users, we 'do not deny ourselves'. I am impressed with the S4's battery life as compared with the EVO LTE's. As an aside, if the S4 has need for more juice, it is possible to carry a spare battery. With the EVO LTE, you mus carry a bulky external battery pack to effect a recharge on the go!

Box Stock means I have NO utilities / apps installed to manage battery life.

I'm composing this on my S4 after a 15 hour workday in which I used this Galaxy for all my work on the web, approx 4-5 hours of browsing, handling all of my email, 50-55 as well as reviewing, editing and uploading other documents. Some phone calls and a dozen text messages.

Now approaching 16 hours of heavy usage my battery indicator reads 32% remaining.

Even my iPhone 5 with its tiny 4" display can't come close.

I'm the type of power user smartphones are built for. Highly mobile and requiring constant connectivity.

I hate to say it, but its not true. Turning off all things that your not using does improve battery life. Also, depending on how your phone is set up, what apps you have running in the background/updating, how many widgets, etc. plays a part in battery drain.

I agree. I'm a medium/heavy user. On average, I get 14 to 16 hrs with 20% battery left. Screen on time is between 3 to 4 hrs. About 2 hrs bluetooth on, 12 hrs with wifi on, streaming music for about 2 hrs and web surfing for about 2 hrs. I have disabled apps and features I don't use. I have been able to get 20 hrs on one charge with light use and about 40% battery left. (Screen on time was just over an hour.)
