How do you rate your nexus one

I am actually considering a nexus one to some degree.

It seems capable of doing just about anything which would be kinda cool for me. It can play games, check email and everything..

Only problem I'm having is that huge price tag. I mean.. its huge.. Being on at&t I am wondering if I wait, maybe htc will come out with something similar for us.

Not knocking htc or anything, but, they have a lot of phones in a similar style to the nexus one, and if at&t gets anything it would be probably worth saving 300$... (or more)

Purchased for full price on AT&T, I was coming off 2 years of my iphone 3G and looking to take a test run with android. I am very happy that I choose the N1 as my first android phone. From a hardware perspective I couldn't be happier.

10 is not high enough. This phone rocks. Ive had it for over a month now on tmobile. I am always very stingy with my phones. 9700, mytouch3g, unlocked iphone 3g. I had problems with all of them, or there was something that bothered me about them. I have not had a single problem with this phone and it honestly has no flaws. Build quality is perfect, and android os just keeps getting better and better. Slap on Helix and you're in heaven.

I am in the exact same boat as Fox. Really really really really really want Android phone, currently on a family plan AT&T and just completed saving up $600 ($400 of it thanks to internet poker, making it extra money I do not mind spending) for my next phone.

Currently debating the Nexus, an unlocked Telus Motorola Milestone, just waiting (for a phone like the Galaxy S or another coming HTC phone). Or switching to another carrier (namely Verizon for the Incredible) getting a data/messaging only plan, leaving my AT&T number on the family plan and using Google Voice to transfer all my calls to my Android phone.

The Nexus One- Leaning towards this due to what I have been reading here (tho the Google forums did kinda scare me, ppl complaining about the 3G/calling/touchscreen but then realized there are only 1-2 hundred people there and thousands of users).

Moto Milestone- I found for $600 including shipping, so it is more expensive than the Nexus and the Telus version did not get 2.1 until recently so kinda afraid of what the future holds for that phone, update-wise. Also heard their update did not give them all the features of 2.1

Waiting for AT&T to get a decent phone- Who knows what AT&T (dumb mf-ers) could do to a great phone like the Galaxy (given what they did to the Backflip and what the rumors say they will do the Aero).

Incredible- Love love this phone (hardware wise, it compares to the Nexus/Evo/Galaxy). BUT like the Milestone, unsure about updates (will it get Froyo? The Nexus is much more obviously likely to get it). And it would be slightly more expensive for me (since I am on a family plan with AT&T) over the span of both a 1-year or 2-year contract, than just buying the Nexus up front.



I do have a few questions:
1) Has anybody experienced the 3G problems they speak of? (preferably ppl on AT&T)
2) Has anybody experienced the touch screens/multitouch issues they speak of?
3) How durable is the screen/phone? Has anybody dropped their phones? If yes, what was the impact?
4) Has anybody placed their phones in their pockets? Weird question but I remember reading something about HTC saying you are not supposed to. Anybody know what the deal is on this. Not down to get a man-purse.

One thing that really gets me leaning towards nexus one is it *is* googles phone. (even if made by htc)

Lets face it that 1 ghz processor should be more than enough power to last quite a while.

Its still just hard to part with 500$ outright on a phone.

Maybe I should just tell myself I'm buying a mini handheld laptop.

Looking at ipad prices always makes me feel better about n1 XD

I'm on AT&T and I love my Nexus One. No signal problems. The only touch screen fussiness I find is with the portrait keyboard and I have found a cheap (3 for $2 from Amazon) capacitive stylus (for typing only) solves that. This is the best pocket computer I have ever had.

That said, I should say, I never do contracts and never will. I have a gophone chip in mine, use mostly wifi and pay $20 for 100 Mb of 3G when I need it-- I can go several months on that $20. So I'm used to paying for unlocked phones. If you are planning to have a contract, you may want to see if there is a model with sililar specs available with subsidy.

Just remember, in either case, you *are* paying fullprice for the phone. Trust me.

You won't be. It does not have an AT&T ROM, it is not tracked. They are perfectly happy to let me use it as a gophone, just as they let me use my unlocked 5800 that way. It is only AT&T branded smartphones, withtheir ROM, that they will force you onto a data plan with.

If you're debating between the Moto Droid and the Nexus One, I'd say that you should go for the Nexus One and you won't regret it. So unless you can wait until AT&T announces new android pones, go with the N1
Reason: it's cheaper @ full price and it's with AT&T so you don't need to do all the complicated sh*t you just said (getting a data/messaging only plan, leaving my AT&T number on the family plan and using Google Voice to transfer all my calls to my Android phone) >_> I mean...you'd end up with 2 plans with 2 carriers if you got with the Moto Droid. Only reason you should pick the Droid over Nexus is if you can't live without a physical QWERTY keyboard.

1) I only use wifi, so no input. If you have stable wifi, it doesn't drain your battery. 4hrs surfing and battery damage caused by wifi is only 6-8%
2)I've only experienced a lag in the touch screen 1% of the time in my daily usage
3)Haven't dropped it yet, so can't comment on that
4)I've placed it in my pockets and it works perfectly fine. I just make sure I take the phone out when I sit down.

Only issues I have is 1) phone calls...major battery drain, 1% drop for around 2 min on the phone. 2) legibility in direct sunlight is horrendous if the monitor is not at 100% brightness. 3) No smart dialling for your bluetooth earpiece. Because of these 3 issues that are important to me, I give the Nexus One an 8.5/10. That just says what a great phone I find it.

OMG...that's ridiculous, I agree with you, had you bought the phone subsidize than you can't complain if they force you on a data plan, but if you bought the phone outright...they subsidized NOTHING...I think that's unethical somehow :/ I'd boycott my carrier if it forces me on its EXPENSIVE data plan (500mb for $25 for the lowest data and the maximum data of 5GB is $80)

I've seen the reception issue. Cover antenna and signal drops. Now I live in a strong 3G area (O2 UK) it's brilliant.

All the rest, build quality, software, apps etc are top notch.

I have experienced NONE of the other issues which various people band around as if every device is flawed.

Remember if you get a carrier phone you may be stuck with whatever crappy rom comes on it for a while so you should be happy with the stock rom before you buy in. Just an fyi but like many other folks I have stayed on medianet at 10 bucks a month for unlimited data just like I have been with every unbranded/unlocked phone before this one. This means I get the entire extra buy in for an unlocked N1 back in 16 months as compared to buying the carrier device at 199 and paying smartphone data. I usually keep my phones around a year so I wont get all my money back but being able to roll without AT&T crapware is well worth whatever I may lose when its all said and done for me. Your mileage may of course vary.

I bought an AT&T version about 2 months ago, and I would say there is no better phone on AT&T right now. I would gladly pay the $550 again, especially since AT&T has a habit of crippling their phones by adding a bunch of software that requires subscriptions in place of stock programs that do the same thing for free. I once had a Nokia from them that they took off Ovi maps (think nokia's version of google navigation) and would not let me install it over their own AT&T Navigation which was $10 a month instead of free. Add this to the fact that they remove everything Google from android devices and replace it with yahoo, I will never buy anything but an unlocked phone ever again.

I can't give it a 10/10 even though I would not trade this phone for anything else. 10/10 to me is there are no issues, flawless in every way and no improvements could be made.

I have to give this a respectable and solid 8/10.

Here is where it takes the 2 point ding for me.

-0.5 for 3G signal issues. The ONLY time I can get full 3G with NO signal loss when I put my hand over the back of the phone to use it is when I am smack in the middle of T-Mobile Corporate Offices. Anywhere else in the real world, I lose some signal or get dropped to Edge.

-0.5 for not enabling all of the hardware that is in the phone. By now, everyone knows there is are FM chips and Wireless N chips in the phone. This is supposed to be enabled in an upcoming OTA, but why have it and not turn them on when released? Lazy? Trying to get it out the door?

-1 for the AMOLED display. I love the display, I love how bright, clear and crisp it is, but I hate that they skimped on the digitizer and made it not as responsive as it could have been. Also, the AMOLED display spec lies to us:

Wireless N does work even though they pulled the feature off the spec list. There are a number of threads on this over in xda if you want to scope it out. I have not read why the FM radio was left out but I suspect it was issues that cropped up late in the game with what was supposed to be final or near final firmware so they decided to move forward without it and ota after the fact. They have no reason to hold it back and every reason to want it working and strictly as a guess I think they held it back from the first ota because they were working larger issues such as the troublesome (for some) 3G. Again these are my guesses and should be taken as such.

I hope you dont mean that surfing for 4 hrs only drains your battery for 6-8%, that seems impossible. If not, where can I check what wifi drains?
