Droid went for swim

Pulled battery immediately. Not sure if it works yet. I have the verizon warranty on the droid. Any idea if this would be covered? Should I make up a story? Thanks!!

If you have insurance it should cover it, minus a deductible. Verizon will not cover water damage.

Open battery, take it out. If u see a red dot then water damage indicator went off. 99% chance this happened

I have a red dot above and left of the battery compartment. Next to the trash can icon with the x through it. I would think that is what you mean, but I do not need to remove the battery to see it- only the battery cover. I actually think the red mark I am referencing was always there- hoping I guess.

That's the water damage indicator. It's already gone off. If your insurance covers water damage, you're safe. If not, then you're not gonna be covered cause they'll just check for that indicator and see that it's been set off.

Only thing I can suggest is Turn phone off and back on and test if it works.
Or pull battery and put back in and see if that fixes it.
And lastly, completely reset your phone to stock, this will erase everything on your phone.
If this fails, than verizon should be able to cover this as it is a manufacturer defect, hopefully your phone isn't rooted, if it is, well you can unroot it back to a stock image.
Haven't had this happen to me but I know i'd be irritated if it did. Sorry and hope I was of some help, Oh by the way, the verizon rep well most likely go down those last three steps with the exclusion of the unrooting part to test the phone.

If I was you I'd lie and say it was stolen. I'm not sure that your phone is covered for this... consult your insurance documents.

Ok, this is terrible advice. Whatever you do, give the phone a chance to dry before you power it back on. This happened to me and I pulled out the battery and the SD card and left it on my car's dashboard for a couple days (it was really hot). I powered it back up once I was certain it was dry and it worked perfectly, so best of luck to you. But definitely check your policy to see if you're covered for water damage, if it doesn't, I would claim the phone was lost or stolen.

I did the same thing Thursday night...put it in a bag of rice over night...without the battery in...worked for about 4 hours the next day then the screen started flickering & it took a dump. it would power on but the screen bulb must have burned out. called asurion & had a new one this morning by 9am for $50....no 16GB card but I do have another charger now

Just dropped mine in the wet driveway of my home and promptly stepped on it before I realized what had happened.. I'm going to bed and praying my Droid is still alive in the morning. I am not looking forward to the prospect of an insurance claim..

$50?! Not to sound crazy but, are you sure? My son decided to toss my Droid in the toilet about 2 weeks ago. It cost me $89 for my insurance replacement since the Droid is on their advanced devices list.

It used to be $50, but changed to $89 sometime late last year. Some people got grandfathered into the $50 price.

I'm kind of dissappointed to see they didn't send another SD card though. Since that came with the phone originally and if it also got wet, there's a good chance it won't work either. It should be considered part of the phone and covered.

I have been swimming with two phones in the past. Neither were a sophisticated as the Droid, but both worked fine after putting them in a bowl of rice for 2-3 days.

Phone is working this morning, but the physcial keyboard has some issues. I still have it sitting in rice as there is condensation on the screen. I filed a claim with asurion and it will cost $50 to replace. If phone gets better before tuesday I will reject the asurion shipment- if not I will do the swap.

Phone is rooted. Any idea if I should unroot before sending to asurion. I admittedly have not yet done search on how to unroot, but if anyone has link handy it would be most appreciated.

the good thing is with the physical keyboard not working I am forced to use virtual with smart keyboard- not bad at all. may actually prefer.

Look in the All About Root subforum here; there's a thread about not fearing bricking your phone anymore. Follow those instructions to unroot. And yeah, you probably should unroot.

i remember a verizon rep telling me to remove the water damage sticker if it is tripped. if there is no sticker, verizon cant prove it has water damage [;

The battery also has the same water indicator sticker, so if you're going to remove one remove the other.

Um... I just looked at my water sticker and it is red with a white "X". There is not a red dot, but the "X" is white not red. So does this mean something went wrong with mine?

It has gotten wet at some point..

As a side note.. I have seen techs looking in the charging port for said indicators also..

Huh, when my phone finally achieved its wish to suicide, I just took my SDcard out of the phone before I sent it to my insurance company. Despite the phone having been immersed in water, the SDcard works perfectly to this day.

dude just say that it got stolen.. pay the deductible and you will have a brand new DROID!
