i either want to get a rom working or go back to stock.

I unlocked my htc correctly, rooted the phone and downloaded rom manager to get a new rom, installed latest version of cyanogenmod for this phone and everything was going great, I followed the process to wipe off data and other stuff, installed zip of rom, gapps file (not sure if it was the right one), and it didnt start.

I also tried installing and older version of the same rom and checked that i got the right gapps file this time...nothing changed.

After doing some research I found out that apparently i need to set s-off (dont know how and tutorials are only for when the phone is still working)

I looked at other forums but none solve the s-on problem after the phone is already unable to start.

HELP!!!

HELP!!!

First of all you want to use 4ext recovery
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1587844
You then want to download the correct GAPPS from
Gapps - CyanogenMod

Then go into recovery and settings and turn on smart flash (allows you to flash things w/o the need to s-off)

Let me know how it goes!

how do I install it if my phone doesnt start? :/...it only shows the htc logo and the the cyanogenmod logo with the blue light going around forever. I can also access the hboot area with the recovery menu that takes me to the rom manager menu.

Thanks

Can you get into recovery?
If you can't then you'll have to RUU back to stock.

It sounds like the only reason why you aren't able to boot is that with S-On you can't write to the boot partition. If you have a computer with adb/fastboot installed, your boot loader is unlocked which is good!

So all you need to do is pull the boot.img from the Rom.zip that you last installed and extract it into your fastboot directory. (Wherever you installed it too. For me it's C:/android-sdk/platform-tools/)

After you have navigated to your fastboot/adb directory, you have the boot.img from the ROM zip you last installed, inside that same directory, all you have to do is load the phone into the boot loader, then select Fastboot. Plug in the phone.

Then use the command: fastboot devices

If it returns a device then you're good to do the next step... If not, then you probably didn't select fast boot in your phones boot loader.

Now that it returns a device you need to run this command: fastboot flash boot boot.img

After it completes (which it should.) Just use the command: fastboot reboot

Your phone should boot up fine now with cyanogenmod running.

The only way that it possibly couldn't work now is if you need to downgrade the boot loader to use Cyanogenmod. That might be why S-Off is made a prerequisite. That's why my old Evo3D wasn't able to run CM10.1 because the boot loader was incompatible with Jellybean apparently and needed to be downgraded to a version that devs could work with.

Anyways enough with my ramble, good luck! Don't forget to thank me if it works! I saw this in the latest posts, so I probably won't be able to reply again, so PM me if you need more help. :]

if you can get to bootloader, you can fastboot flash your ext 4 recovery, then follow chriz's directions,or you can fastboot flash your boot image wich should also get you up and running.

at any rate, once you get booted up,delete rom manager from your phone and dont use it again  especially with an s on phone.
