Help Google Services Draining Battery

Help! I have had the S4 for about 3 months now and love it. I was an Iphone guy before but really like this phone. My problem is that Google Services is using anywhere from 77% to 82% of my battery. This first occurred last week, I just restarted the phone and every thing went back to normal.
However today the problem is back, I have tried clearing the cache and that doesn't seem to help. I even go into the Application Manager to "STOP" it from running and it immediately restarts. My battery use to last from 24-36 hours now, I am barely getting 12 hours.
I don't want to do a factory reset, so please any suggestions would be greatly appreciate.

There are a number of threads on this. For me the problem went away by itself after a while, perhaps indicating it was doing something like backing up data or some such thing. Other claim other fixes.

When you click on Google Services from within the battery tab, what is the CPU total, Stay away and apps listed being used?

Set google services back to factory settings and battery issue appears to be resolved. Only 9% battery use now. I did get a request later to update Google services and I did not do it. I noticed numerous comments from folks that did do the upgrade and now have battery issues.

Resetting to Factory settings means erasing your phone.

You do not want want to keep stopping the google services. They are required for android to work. What I did when this occurred was restart my phone, go into the manager and stop all applications from running - only apps not google services. In addition clear the apps from the ram. After, let your phone sit for a while meaning 15 to 30 minutes and it should be fine. If that does not fix the problem I would suggest maybe throwing a rom on there to see if that may help.

but I guess even if you do this, they (apps cleared/stopped) will be alive again in time. . .since I think they are the default apps being used by the phone system. . .so they will just keep on coming back.. ?

I did not do a Factory reset to the entire phone as I did not want to lose or have to readd all my data. What I did was this.

1. Settings
2. More
3. Applications
4. All
5. Found Google services
6. Hit the "Force Stop" button, received a message that this would reset Google Services back to Factory Settings. I clicked OK.
7. Once this was done, Google services now uses 9% or less of my battery. My battery right now is at 63% and I have not charged it in 24 hours.

Now I am receiving requests to upgrade my Google Services and I am not doing that until they resolve the battery draining issue.

but I guess this will be back again for quite a time. . check your running apps again.. I did this days ago, and after x hours, google services is back at the running apps. . .

what Goodspike said above is exactly what happened to me. my battery was fine, then one day google services was KILLING it (between 50-70% battery usage). i spent hours on these forums researching it and trying everything i could to fix the issue (whatever the "issue" actually was). nothing really worked. then one day, after about 1-1.5 weeks, it just went back to normal on its own. haven't had the problem since. my google services is now usually between 3-7% of battery usage with an ocassional, but not often, 10% usage...but never higher than 10% in the last few weeks.

it doesn't hurt to turn off a few things in the background that you don't need, but in this case, i'd advise living with it for a week or two and see if it resolves itself. if not, then it's time to re-evaluate the issue and possible solutions/options. it's not worth going nuts over...at least not yet

I never had the issues but now I lost 30% over night (100%>70% in 7hrs) with Google services usage of 95%

That is a good point. I remember a while back, Google Services was using a lot of my battery. I don't remember if it was before or after I turned off location reports using GPS. Either way, haven't had a problem since. Google Services is usually between 5% to 7% for 14 plus hrs.

yes, it can be the issue (or part of it).

try a search and you guys will find a couple of other threads about this (i think i may have posted in a few of them, so you could try just searching by name handle on here) - there are a ton of things people point to that could be the issue...or it could just resolve itself in a week or two...

but location reporting was definitely at the top of the list people were recommending to disable.

I'm seeing the same thing - if I leave GPS off, google services battery consumption is minimal. If I turn GPS on (with no other change), google services consumes a huge portion of the battery.

I really need GPS only for navigation, so I use a tasker profile to enable GPS whenever I launch maps, and disable it when I exit maps.

It is due to WiFi & mobile network location. Turn it off by going to Settings -More tab -Location Services. That worked for me.

This is true. The only problem is, if you have apps that use location, the app might not work correctly because its needs your location.
