Help Samsung Galaxy S3 KILLS SD CARDS!!!!!!

Today out of the blue my six month old SanDisk 32 GB class 10 disk just stopped working. HOWEVER any other card reader has no problem with it - just my phone. I put in my old SanDisk 32 GB class 4 into my phone and that works OK.

I have tried the methods on here to get it to work in my phone but nothing works.

Anyone had this situation?

I ordered this from Amazon and they are thankfully replacing it.

I had the same Kingston class 10 16GB card in my last phone (original Incredible) and moved it to my Galaxy S3 with no problems a year ago. Woke up last week, my phone wasn't seeing the card. I am unrooted and did NOTHING to my phone to change any settings, install any new apps, etc. It just decided it was over for the sd card. Lost all my pictures, which was the only thing that I had on the card besides music which I have backed up. That sucks that this phone does this. So ... yes it is still happening to those who are curious.:(

** Edit - I am now just using the phone memory as I purchased the 32GB phone and have more than enough memory for my needs. I am afraid to put another sd card in this phone.

ok so i've pretty much solved the problem for me anyway....its wiped everything again twice in the last 3 months. Each wipe has been from a drop or heavy bump. When i drive i sit my phone under my right thigh. When i got out of the car the phone hit the road pretty firm, not from a great height. Everything wiped. the 2nd one recently was from a drop from my desk to the carpeted ground at work. No one on here has mentioned they have dropped or bumped their phone but it would be interesting to see who has and who hasnt.

SAMSUNG S3 external memory card error FIXED!!
(previously access was unavailable in S3 or PC).

Steps used to Fix the SD card:
1. S3 set Developer options (ON)
2. Set Protect SD card (checked)
3. Remove battery
4. Install 32g card
5. Install battery
6. Turn on S3

Download SanDisk Android app. - external 32g shows up - YES!!
Scandisk app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sandisk.mz

I had the same problem 2 weeks ago. But mine did not read my card, so I knew the data was not lost and the answer was here.:rock::rock:

Now that you mention it, I mine had a small drop before the issues started.

Joined just to add my two pennies worth.
Wife an I both have Note2 phones hers refused to read the card, mine was hunky dory, so put it down to a dodgy SD and ignored the problem. I recently received an upgrade so donated my card to the Mrs. low and behold it fried the card i gave her rendering it un-readable.
Quick call to Samsung and they are taking her phone in for a free repair. No mess no fuss, just send it back to us sir.

well, add me to the list - 8g class 10 card. only been using about 2 months. got notification to 'insert card' - took out reinserted, rebooted, tried fixes here - from developer option, to piece of paper folded neatly on top of card - nothing. slipped it into adapter and into computer and it's not recognized. luckily pictures were backed up to dropbox and music is on my hard drive, but what a pain. has it been confirmed that its the class 10 cards with teh major issue? i'd like to get another card but don't want to waste my money!

8g class 10 should only run about 10 bucks surely? just buy another one. Its going to keep doing it. a couple posts above is how to get it to re read it. Just back ya stuff up. I've got 2 cards going atm, when one fails slot the next one in..when that fails, i go back to the other.

it's not so much the money as the frustration. so it's not just the class that is the problem? i do back up and in fact just loaded my music and photos back on the phone-

its across the board mate. i had a class 4 and it the samsung ate that. As you can see from the thread they're all being eaten eventually. Theres no solution, i tried the plastic in the card, worked but then sh!t itself, then i dropped it and i though that was the issue, but about a week ago now it just carked it again. This time the phone didnt even acknowledge the card. Its just a glitch that samsung wont fix and refuse to acknowledge. I've noticed its happening on the S4 as well as the note 2 and 3. The LG G2 might be everyones best answer!

I have a similar problem. I've had my S3 for just over 6 months completely trouble free. Then last week the Samsung 8gb SD card starting 'unmounting unexpectedly' and the battery started draining twice as fast as usual. Since removing the SD the battery life has returned to normal. Has anyone had the battery problem as well as the SD one?

I have a 32gb sandisk and I had no issues until I recorded a big video. After recording this semi long video (4mins), my card was not usable any more after this.

My settings was to save all camera stuff onto the external sd. I think recording a long video might have stressed it out.

I don't know if you guys want to try it, but try recording a long video and tell me if this breaks your sd cards.

Luckily for me, everything is backed up into my dropbox. I just lost that stupid long video.

I've just had this problem on my Note 2. My card is a 32GB class 4 (not sandisk) and after recording a long video with default save settings to SD my SD is now completely unrecognisable by any device. I was about to upgrade to a Note 3 but am now having second thoughts. Nexus 5 is starting to look pretty attractive! Latest Android versions - here I come!

I have to update my issue here. Back in January my first 32GB SanDisk extreme died after almost exactly three months of use. Costco exchanged it and it has been issue free since. I really believe that there are certain SDcard firmware that Samsung does not play well with. SanDisk fixed the issue, but many other manufacturers may not have. I've replaced the phone due to other issues and have no problem in this one either.

Well, I finally started bumping up on the internal memory limit. Was going to buy a micro SD for the GS3.

Consensus is that this is just simply a no go, still? After all this time, phones still destroying cards even as of late Nov 2013?

If so, have to say I'm pretty bummed to hear that. Not nice to have a "feature" that doesn't even work.

When I first bought the s3, it instantly killed my sd card I had used with my mytouch 4g.

So I bought a Samsung 32gb sd. Worked fine. Until yesterday. "Unexpected unmounting" error message came up and all my files... gone..

I placed the sd into my co-workers s3 and it doesn't acknowledge any card.

The theory of dropping the phone may be the case as I dropped my phone earlier this week.

But the battery drain and heating of the unit happened to me as well.

Well, I put my 32gb Adata card into my S3, had been fine for about a week in there, today I transferred some videos to the card through Kies, came to work and the card unexpectedly unmounted and won't be read by the S3 or my old phone. Woohoo... Was using this same card in my Samsung Galaxy Reverb for probably the last 10 months without any issue.

U-1 [class 10] sandisk
Fat 32 but has ben exfat before
Custum roms since launch date, same card.

Just sayin. Maybe I am just lucky.

I've been lucky too. I ran a 64gb class fat32 no issues for months and months.

I did encounter issues only when I installed different roms that did not support the card even when it was formatted to fat32. Even reinstalling a knox free stock 4.3 rom ran into issues with the card.

Running pure stock, no issues. Seems the drivers are touchy.
