Nexus 5 Pre-Release/Speculation Thread

Idk I get the feeling that the GRAM might not make the cut, which seems to contribute a fair amount to the G2s efficiency. If google is trying to save money I would expect the battery, screen, camera, and GRAM to be the first things to go or get pared back

Then expect roughly the same battery life as an HTC One. Same battery capacity, larger screen area size to light up, but more energy efficient CPU. Also stock Android helps a little.

So in terms of battery if it doesn't get GRAM, the Nexus 5 will have 2 advantages over the HTC One: Snapdragon 800 and stock Android.

The HTC One has one advantage over the Nexus 5: smaller screen to keep back-lit.

And since "Screen" is typically at the top of my battery stats in settings, this could cancel out the two advantages the Nexus 5 has.

if your going to compare phones from other manufacturers a better comparison might be with the recently released Sony Xperia Z1 (just subtract roughly 25% to account for the smaller battery in the N5) since it has the same SoC and screen size/resolution.

Well since the Nexus 5 will carry LG screen tech, I'm not so sure the Sony Z1 would be a good comparison. Plus I really do think GRAM will see an appearance in the Nexus 5.

But if you want to compare something with the same resolution, battery capacity, and even the same OS (a factor that can't be considered in any other case), then we should look at the HTC One GPE.

I hope it gets GRAM (though I also hope Verizon removes their head from their ... so I expect to be disappointed). It is a very smart idea.

I also hope that they use the language core in the s800 like on the X. I'm curious if the s800 has the ability to use one of it's DSPs as a low power contextual awareness chip like the X too.

Back to your post though. Neither of those phones makes a great comparison because they both have huge differences. The chipset difference in the One can't be overlooked.

its interesting that they are saying the price difference between the Note 3 cam ($15) and the MEMs cam ($25) would be enough to decide what kind of quality camera the N5 gets... man if it were only a matter of paying $15 or even $30 extra on top of the N5 price to get a top quality cam I would gladly pay it lol.

The HTC one is a poor comparison because it has a completely different SoC, its just too large of a variable when comparing smartphones.

Hahahaha I remember that. We all went crazy complaining about how VZW handled the launch, and #vzwfail (or whatever the hashtag was) was on the trend for awhile, even after the phone was released.

Yep, seems like only yesterday. Plus there were the ever infamous youtube videos of the Verizon executive board about their mission to sell more Droid Razrs, lol. What got lost in all the Verizon mud was that the GSM model launched on time worldwide, even though Google didn't bring it to Google Play until a couple of months later.
