Root newly rooted, question....

Hello everyone, i just finished rooting my HTC EVO LTE, took about an hour following QBKing77 youtube videos, How to Root the HTC EVO 4G LTE - Latest - YouTube , and i have been looking for a while and reading, but i dont think im ready to flash a ROM yet i still want to read up and learn as much as i can first. so in the mean time i really was wondering if there is a way to update my software without taking an OTA? My phone says its on android 4.1.1, Sense 4+. Is there any way to upgrade it to 4.3? I plan on flashing a rom once i am more comfortable doing so... or am i just over thinking it? Sorry for rambling just looking for some expert opinions please and thank you in advance.

Currently we don't have an official Android 4.3 sense build. We do however have AOSP (Android Open Source Project) 4.3 based roms.

In order to get these updates, you'll need to flash a rom. It's not that bad once you get the hang of it. :)

To get up to speed try reading this guide:

Here are a few good roms you might want to try:

Viper 3.1.7 is a Sense based rom, and it's really good:

BeanStalk is a 4.3 based AOSP rom, and this is also really good:

Take your time, and ask questions. We're here if you need us. :)

well to update your phone as far as the os is concerned then all you need to do is flash a rom that has the update included. however, since there is not an official 4.3 update yet for our phone you will have to use aosp roms that have 4.3.

aosp stands for Android Open Source Project. this is pure android without the carrier stuff added.....so no sense, just pure android code.

here is a list of roms we currently have:

also read the second post for more info on roms and kernels as well.

ahhh help please, im more confused now, im not sure i will do anything right. everything i read is from 1+ years ago and as you all know a lot of things change, i mean i get the basics of it but im a little confused on how to flash a new ROM...... and well anything else i need to do that i am forgetting. can someone kind of explain it to me like i am a child lol its a lot to take in at once. also what should i focus on understanding first? (flashing ROMs, or Kernels,...or something else) i think i might be confusing myself.

are you s-off or unlocked? if you are s-off then flashing is pretty simple. if you are s-on(unlocked) then there are a few more extra steps you will need to do.

the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-lte-all-things-root/605567-ltevo-rooting-dummies-complete-guide.html has info as to how to flash a rom. it also has another link as to how to flash when you are unlocked. check out the second post for more info.

whatever you do....do not forget to make a nandroid backup.

alright sorry for freaking out last night lol i do have s-off and it says "Tampered". I figured out how to flash from a youtube video(im more of a vision step by step kind of person) and flashed viper rom no problem i can't believe how easy it was and that i hadn't done it sooner! but now i have a different problem every time i try to use an app that needs a rooted device or SU permissions such as Titanium Backup it says it needs the device to be rooted...... so when i go into SuperSU which came when i rooted the phone with twrp it says the binary needs to be updated.....i dont know what that means or what i am supposed to do?

inside the su file you there should be an update binary option.

and just an fyi the su is cooked into the rom and when you flash a rom it gets wiped when you wipe dalvik cache, cache, data(factory reset), and system(which is done in the aroma installer) before flashing the rom.
