would you actually consider this a 5.2 inch screen?

To be honest i think its more a 5.0 or 4.9 because the navigation buttons get in the way alot. I wish there was a way to make it dissapear when your in apps. Maybe a sweep down the screen will hide it and a sweep up to bring it back. But ye i know some apps do hide it but not most..

i know theres an app u can use if you are rooted. but id like to wait after my warranty is out just in case.

but google or what ever other company that makes cell phones with touchscreen navigation should think about the idea i stated.

Disclaimer: I do not have a G2, so can't test this for myself before posting.

There is an article that suggests that hiding the menu buttons can be worked around if running Android 4.2 (which the G2 does). While this article is directed at the HTC One, it may work for the G2.

Cult of Android MobileHow To Hide The Virtual Menu Button On Your HTC One With Android 4.2.2 | Cult of Android

While I might be hopeful that this would work in fullscreen games or 3rd party video players; this may only work for native apps or basic 3rd party apps.

It does sound simple enough to test though; perhaps someone can try and report back?

EDIT: after re-reading the article, perhaps what they mean by Menu button isn't the same as what I consider the Menu buttons ( Back / Home / Menu) so maybe this is a dead end.

GMD Autohide works perfectly. I rooted, flashed twrp and cleanROM. Im also using Nova Launcher and GMD Autohide. This phone is perfect. All those things arent necessary for GMD... just letting you know theyre all compatible and work smoothly and flawlessly.

Well, at a minimum, root is required.

Dang that sucks. Maybe try alerting the developer.

Good idea. Probably just needs an update to the app.

I would like to see Moboplayer and MXplayer also have this option. However, the stock player is actually pretty nice and uses some of the same gestures as the others. I'd also like to see Waze hide the buttons.

Hopefully LG will have an update that will make the navigation buttons able to be hidden whenever you want them to be.

It is possible, but as far as I know, nobody has made it work for the US versions yet. Over on XDA there was a Korean ROM posted and it had the option to select specific apps for the navbar to hide in.

But again, if you dont mind rooting, it only takes 30 seconds... you can then use GMD(oops)and it will hide the navbar. Works great.

GMD Auto Hide Soft Keys is a program which gets rid of the navbar. It has a ton of options and you can have another navbar which pops up if you swipe the bottom. Combine that with GMD gesture control and you can say goodbye to the navbar forever, both are awesome programs.

Oh, and you can set it so your navbar will disappear ONLY in certain programs, you can do the same with the top status bar. It's very in depth how much customization you can do with these 2 programs.

For this very program, I am considering rooting for the first time! This is my 5th Android phone (7th, including the wife's) and have never felt the need to root before. However, the soft buttons really grate on me. Can't understand why Google wouldn't have designed them to work like GMD from the beginning. Having had Motorola and then Samsung devices, I've never had the navigation bar before. Major kudos to LG to make the bar customizable, but not quite enough for my taste.

do it!!!! ;)

I rooted my Gnex for the exact same reason. I liked the fact that the phone didnt have any actual buttons because of the navbar, but it took away from the screen. With the FULL 5.2" screen, its like a whole new device.

Hi Stodda!

Are you running a custom ROM or just a replacement launcher? If not custom, can u switch to Stock launcher and post a pic how it looks w/o the buttons?

Also, what method (website) did u use to root and where can the two apps you mention be found? (sorry so many questions but now i'm giving "dirty looks" to my always there ALWAYS nav buttons becuz of ur post...lol

Personally I would love to see the buttons have a transparency option that would allow me to make them almost invisible, once u get used to them being there about a 10% transparency would be about all you need (like I keep my "Circle Launcher" icon....)
