Camera Update for Moto X Tested

Anandtech got their hands on the new update for the Moto X, which apparently is imminent on T-Mobile with other carriers to follow. Their testing showed dramatic camera improvement when compared shot-for-shot with a non-updated unit. No word on whether the Droid lineup will get the same update, but given how much is shared between the new Droids and the Moto X, I certainly hope it's in the pipeline.

Talked to Verizon today, I wanted to ask some questions because I'm debating between the Maxx & the X. I told them one of the reservations I had on either was due to the camera, and inquired if the update that's going out to the X's on T-Mobile, AT&T, & Sprint was coming to the X & Droids on Verizon. She did an alert check for any updates and found one for the camera that's supposed to be showing up in 2 weeks, 3 at the latest. Just thought I'd pass it along.

Thanks for the info! Just to clarify, is the update she found for the X, the Droids, or all of the above?

She said it was for all those plus the Razr models. She said it would change the interface as well. That part did worry me since the Razrs and the current crop (2013 Droids & the X) have different camera hardware. Perhaps they're stripping the part of the update that fixes the camera issues on the current phones for the older models.

What Thom said.

But,
Judging from past updates on previous phones, the update will break root and it will take the gurus some time to fix that.
No one will know for sure until the actual update appears in the wild.
If tether is that important, make sure you DO NOT accept the update until there is a new root option available.
