Hey guys quick question that I searched around and couldnt find an answer to. I recently switched from an iphone to a galaxy s4, as some of you might know on the iphone when you receive a tweet it would display a notification banner/alert and sound. Since installing twitter on my galaxy and going through all the settings, I cannot find a way to make the app notify me of new tweets, the app is completely silent unless I manually open in at refresh the feed.

So my question is, is there a way to have it notify me with sound/banner etc or does the app not do this on android phones? Any help is much appreciated as I'm still adjusting to the new phone :)

I can't speak about Twitter original app because I have never used it. But if you willing to give a try to Carbon, there are notifications for "mentions" and "Messages".

Plus, it's a really lovely app to navigate around. Probably one of the best Twitter clients out there. (supports multiple accounts)

You will find "carbon" here <----

In Twitter App--
Menu Button > Settings

Under Accounts, select your account

From there your settings open up including a whole section for "Notifications." Select that and you can turn on notifications for incoming tweets. Then you can choose to make it vibrate or ping, or blink the light, or whatever.

Hmm. I have experimented with this, and there appears to be another step required.

Once you turn on Notifications, you can instantly turn on notifications for mentions, retweets, etc., but in order to get notifications for plain ordinary tweets, you must do this by each individual twitterer you follow.

If you click on "Tweets" under the notifications menu, it says "Get Tweet notifications from people you follow by choosing 'Turn on notifications' from their profile." (I assume this is for your benefit, as some people tweet so damn much, you don't want to be alerted every time they tweet.)

So, activate your Notifications. THEN, go into the profile of someone you want to get notifications from. Click the little icon with the head in it, and up pops menu options including "Turn on notifications." That oughtta do it.
