Free data for a tablet for life?

I think this could work well for T-Mobile. Yes, there are people who will get the free 200MB and be happy with it. However, what I suspect will happen (and the T-Mobile is banking on) is that people will get a taste of what their tablet can do with the 200MB and decide they have to have more data. Ultimately, I suspect that T-Mobile well end up selling lots more data plans -- and I'm sure they hope some of those people decide to switch their phones over, as well.

I plan on taking advantage of this, most likely w/the NEXUS 7.

I'm covered by WI-FI most of the time & the 200MB + the additional 2.5GB of tethering that I already have (free) from my unlimited phone plan from T-Mobile make this a no-brainer.

I've already got my LTE Nexus 7, but haven't hooked it up to a carrier yet. Now I'm really glad I didn't because I'll be hopping onto this ASAP.

It seems to only be for tablets. I'm not sure if they have different SIMs for phones and tablets, but I'll be sure to find out once it's revealed when this whole thing goes live.

I had a data-enabled XYBOARD @ one time & only after I purchased a SIM Card for it did I realize there is a difference/compatibility, although physically they look the same.

Unless there is some sort of hack available,I don't believe the tablet SIM will work for voice on a phone. The data might.

BTW, the only reason I bought a SIM Card for that tablet was to make the ever-present NO SIM CARD INSTALLED notification go away. Just got a good deal on the tablet, never had any intention on paying a Kings ransom for VZW's data......

I have never heard of Tablet that has a SIM card unless those you get at the phone store.

I see it now at Google Store. You can get phone version of it but it cost more than the Wifi version.

I can't really tell, I can't find anywhere that states when the free data promotion goes live. The November date, from what I can see, is because that is when T-Mobile starts selling the Nexus 7 rather than the start of the free data promotion. It is part of why I'm curious if people have signed up yet.

I got an email yesterday about 10 (ten) mb free on my 7.0+, it's not been activated for a while but the card is still in it. I got the email on the 30th and it said good til October 29...

Although I don't find them particularly clear, these are the instructions to set up the free data on a tablet. Basically, follow the instructions to set up an account and do not select a data plan. Once your account is set up you will receive the 200 MB of free data every 30 days.

Personally, I just had a T-Mobile store set it up for me (though they had to look up how to do it). And, as a warning, there is a $10 "SIM kit" charge; I believe you have to pay it unless you have one of the SIM kits marked for Mobile Broadband.

Update: I went to the store and payed for the 10 dollar SIM starter kit and had the rep set me all up. It was convenient because the guy in front of me was having the same thing set up on his iPad, so he already knew how to do it.

Would anybody with this try putting their tablet's sim into a phone, and let us know if it works?

The best I can find is the $10 a month on demand which reports indicate is t-mobiles version of free internet.

I don't think it would work in a phone because T-Mobile sims will auto-detect your IMEI and if it discovers that it isn't a tablet they could kill the sim. I wish there was a way to do it online, but it seems there's a lot of configuring on their end to get it set up. You might be able to do so in the future, but for now it seems best bet is in store.

It might work in an AT&T or international phone. Neither of my original AT&T Notes were identified on the my t-mobile page when used on a phone plan. I never tried them with the sim from my T-Mobile 7.0+ as the thirty dollar phone plan is just a better value than any T-Mobile prepaid tablet plan.
