Worth the extra $$$?

Hey folks. I have begun my search for my nest phone and I have it pretty narrowed down to maybe a Note 3 or the LG G2. Currently I have an IPhone 4 but I am due for an upgrade. I am getting away from Apple nothing personal I just think they are overpriced and I base that on when I needed a new IPad and decided the Nexus 7 would suit me better.

Anyway here it is I have pretty bad eyes short story borm in 1968 premature by 3 months and 100 percent oxygen lrft me with bad eyes (thanfully I have eyesight) FF to now and I have lost more vision due to untreated chronic HBP that damaged the nerves in my eyes. Don't pity me as I work and drive but I do need a cell phone with a larger screen. I have neen looking at the note 3 and I like the idea of the sPen but I am trying to decide if I would use it enough to pony up the extra $$$ for the Note 3. I like the fact that you can add memory with the micro sd because I love music and in my office I have a small amp and 2 Polk speakers.

What made you decide to get a Note 3? I have watched a few reviews of the Note 3 and I would like to hear what you think of it good and bad but I want/need to hear specifics. I may go to a store when I can to see how well it fits in my dress pants pocket.

Screen size for me was the number one reason for considering this phone. I use it more as a pocket computer than a phone so a bigger screen with top of the line resolution was paramount. The sPen is nice too but not the deciding factor in my decision.

It was funny for me when talking about size. I, like many folks, looked at many YouTub videos and professional reviews before going to the store to see the phone. Everyone online kept talking about the size and how "big" it was. When I went to my Verizon store and walked up top the display model I thought I was looking at the wrong phone as it didn't seem big to me. I literally had to look at the card beside the phone to be sure I was looking at the Note 3. lol

So far (four days) I LOVE this thing and the extra money is well with it. Can't ever imaging going to a smaller screen in future phones.

I think the "Easy mode" of the Samsung Galaxy line, which makes everything bigger and easier to read for those without 20/20 vision or older folks, should make your decision "Easy".

Before my first Samsung phone I had a Sony Ericsson Satio - fabulous camera, great build quality, awful browser and diabolical software. When my phone supplier gave up trying to repair it they gave me a Nokia N8 - amazing camera, indifferent browser but the build quality from the gods.
From this I went to a Galaxy S2 - loved it, then a Galaxy S3, even better, and then a Note 2, the first phone which I thought was the best a phone could possibly be. The camera died a couple of weeks ago and now I have a Note 3 which is even better than the Note 2.
It is a constant evolution and I am sure that in a year the Note 4 will blow the Note 3 out of the water but till then I am a happy bunny.

The number one reason I wanted the Note 3 to begin with was simply the screen size. I wear contacts a lot that fix my for off vision, but then I have to wear reading glasses to see things that are really close. So, I wanted the biggest screen I could get in a phone to help with that.

The screen size definitely. TBH, it's not too big. It's just the perfect size that I wanted my phone to be. I have an HTC One and been using for months. I love everything about it except the size. We're talking about touch phones here and I tend to commit tons of error when texting on small screens and that can be very annoying.

And the battery life of Note 3 is just through the roof. You won't regret it.

In terms of cost, you can check out Bestbuy. They currently have a $100 discount on all phones activated through them. Sadly, its only for this weekend and that may be too early for your upgrade. Other than that, I'm in the same boat in terms of picking from those same two devices. I really want the sPen, but the more I hold off in buying a Note 3, the more I think I could live without it. On the other hand, the LG G2 doesn't have a removable battery. That, in itself, makes me not want to buy the G2.

That's one of the main reasons I am looking at the Note 3 also. I wear contacts one for near and one for far vision but I really need magnifiers to aid in reading and my iPhone display is just too small.

I love the thought of the pen but not sure how much I would use it. Taking notes in meetings looks great to me and oddly enough so does the scrapbook feature. I am always looking at something on the net that makes me want to see something else. Earlier i saw a video on doing graphs and it looks handly for me since i am a visual person. When a buddy of mine got his Note 2 we kidded him about the screen size but I did like it.

I actually went into the TMo store to do a side by side with the Note 3 and G2. I ended up walking out with the Note 3. Why? Well, for starters, I had a Note 2 previously and it is amazing how addicted you get to that S-pen for jotting down even the most menial of notes. It's amazing the number of things you find yourself jotting down all of a sudden.

Second, removable memory and battery are still two things I feel like I need. Sometimes I travel and that means no cloud access so I need to have stuff on device just in case. I'm also a big fan of the "if all else fails, pull the battery" reset. Nothing trumps pulling the battery.

Other than that, they both had great screens and great cameras. I actually really liked the manual mode of the G2 but just like a P&S, once you know what is happening in the various auto modes, you can get the camera to bend to your will.

The fine print on their web site says they don't do price-matching for cell phones. That could be superceded of course by any given store's policy, I just wouldn't assume anything when it comes to those people.

I have to admit I rarely used the S Pen on my Note 2 but I was playing with it last night and the ability to "draw" 4 windows and have them all running at the same time is amazing.

I have loved my N3 and the visuals are spectacular. I have not mastered the S-Pen yet although the one use I found for it was to clip a brief web listing for a store where we plan to vacation and send it by email to someone else. I have absolutely no buyers remorse about paying top dollar for my N3.

I am coming from Apple as well (5 years). I tell you what, the screen size was the reason to begin looking at the N3. Doing some research convinced me to buy it. Apple makes quality simple products. That said, I fell like my hands have been un tied. I mean control is what Apple is all about, Droids seem to set you free.
When Apple decided we didn't need anything larger than what they wanted us to have, I decided to give the N3 a try.
When I ordered my N3 the plan was to "try it out" for a few days and more than likely return it and keep waiting for the 5"+ Iphone. Well, I'm glance I switched formats!

Screen size is my first priority, I hate mobile sites, using desktop sites works ideally with my Note 3. I also enjoy the working room when composing emails, messages, and this forum post on my fast and fun Note 3.

I've yet to experience another smartphone as ideal for me as this one. I am repeatedly amazed with all I can do. I'm enjoying this even more than my exemplary Nexus 7. I carry it at all times and its ready to serve at a moment's notice.

It's worth every dollar I paid for it, and then some.

I'll second the above!
I use my Note 3 as a PDA, that can make phone calls.
The screen was first then it's computing power second.
For poor eyesight is there a better phone that fits in your pockets out there??? I don't think so.
