HTC apologises for Android 2.1 Hero delay

Really dont care now.

Unofficail dates where thrown around all the time, but HTC did say 2.1 for the Hero was due to be out by Q1 2010 in november. That in my mind meant end of March at the latest. June is not Q1 its end Q2 and that is if they even release it then.

When and if it comes out 2.2 will most likely be out and the next OS will be flying towards us. HTC wont IMHO do anything more with the Hero as it appears to hard to anything with it. Wonder if the new HTC phones set 2.2 onwards just as slowly.

Too Little to late in my book.
HTC have just woken up to the fact that they have pissed off a lot of their customers.

Ive now rooted and installed a custom Rom so i really don't care what HTC do anymore.

When I'm ready to upgrade my phone HTC wont be the first port of call on my shopping list.

Hmm. Yet another 'quote' from HTC regarding the 2.1 update with no source cited. I won't pay any attention to any of them until one is posted on HTC's site.
Perhaps I should start a blog and post random rumoured dates for the update and quotes with no source on it. Should get me plenty of page views :D.

My thoughts exactly.

I am now happily running Villian 5.4

HAS HTC actually said anything about this on their website or Twitter?

Everytime there was a release date on a website it wasn't true, why is this true if its not on their website/Twitter.

I'm not going to believe anything about the hero release dates / sorry until its official or I download it.

I care about 2.1. Devs will be able to make better custom firmwares with it compared to the current sprint ports.

Yup, devs will always be ahead of HTC anyway. Gotta flash.. Lets figure this. When 2.1 comes out, officially, there will most likely be bugs. I mean, they've been working on it awhile, but 1.5 had bugs.. It will probably take HTC weeks if not months to release patches, which sprint or other carriers will have to approve yada yada. On the other hand, devs over on XDA can have a ROM patched and available for upgrade in 1 day. Its worth it for sure. I mean we already have fully functioning 2.1 roms for the most part..

I think the main benefit to the devs will be full access to all the components of the ROM. I won't pretend to know much about how it all works, but being able to edit/create a kernel for the hero seems to be important to them. But they can't do that until the proper release.
