Root Has anybody who has rooted the phone restore it with RSDLite using a FXZ?

The subject line asks my question.

If the answer is no, then I would seriously think more than twice before I rooted this phone right now. If you root, and there is no way yo go back to stock, you should know that quite definitively before going through the process.

Other reasons casual rooters may want to uproot include the ability to run apps that are blocked by root. There was a time when netflix wouldn't run if the phone was rooted. There is also the isis wallet thing (something I'm not interested in - current payment methods work great for me - but I can see why the wallet makers and carriers may insist on an unrooted phone.)

There may be people who too aggressively remove bloatware who become unable to install otas. Root may still give them the ability to get updated camera software and drivers, but maybe not updated radios or kernels. At least until fxz files are made that work.

I successfully flashed my Maxx back to stock with the FXZ and RSDLite last night. Had to edit the xml to remove one line, save it, flashed it with no problems. Found links over at XDA.

I decided to go back to bone stock (after having been rooted for a few weeks) so I can get the new update as soon as possible. I decided I wasn't using the benefits of root enough to warrant keeping it and avoiding the update.

can you explain the firmware to me for a second. is the one provided on xda thread just for the moto x, or did you use/find one for the droids?

It is here: Droid-Developers SBF

I am 99.999% sure that it is the second file in that list (obake-maxx_verizon-user-4.2.2-12.9.0Q2.X-160-OBK_TA-14-7-7-release-keys-CFC.xml.zip) - just by the name of the file. I think that the "obake" one is the file for the Ultra, and the first one is the original firmware that shipped with the phone (which was replaced by an OTA on launch day.)

Would you be so kind and explain what line and how to remove it? I have rsd and have used it before on my old Droid razr but now have this phone and rsd keeps kicking back an error about path too long or something. My phone is in a boot loop and I'd really like to fix it.

Thanks.

I think that this post should explain it: Unbrick, unroot and restore DROID Ultra to stock with factory firmware and RSD Lite | AndroMods

(It's for the Ultra, but just do the same with the XML file for the Maxx.)

Followed that link and now when it starts to flash it error's out on step 2, I'm going to lose what little bit of my mind I have left over this.

Is it possible because I'm using a x64 operating system? Win7 pro x64 to be exact.

I'm not sure. I doubt that it's that.

You may want to try the House of Moto procedure. See [GUIDE] House of Moto - xda-developers

Good luck...

Well you may or may not believe this but I was able to fix it using the obake-maxx version, I tried over and over using RSD lite and house of moto altering the xml file and nothing worked so as a last effort I decided to go ahead and try that file, after all the only difference between the Ultra and maxx is the battery and damned if it didn't work, WOOHOOOOO!!!!!!

The procedure is the same, just d/l the maxx file, open it and alter that line in the xml file save it and run rsd, don't know if makes a difference but while it's looping you gotta turn debug mode off and ya gotta be quick about it before it boot loops.

Doing the happy dance I got my phone back. :dancing:
