Gallery Vs. Photos

Which do you prefer to use?

So far this is the only thing that bugs me about my N5. They have different filters/editing options and the sharing options are set up differently too. I don't know which one to set up as my default or which to use more.

According to this article, Gallery will likely be phased out.
This article explains the differences and why they're both on the phone.

Okay so for some clarification. I didn't know what you guys were talking about until I updated Google+ and the old G+ Photos app turned into Photos. They may add photosphere to replace gallery but at this point it seems aimed more at Google+ users. But it is not a new app at all so if they were trying to replace gallery, they have been for a while now.

What? Gallery may be going? Ug, I loathe G+, I really do. I'm gonna research this - because I take pictures of things that, frankly, I don't want on the ever so public Google +... mainly, pictures of my kids.

I agree, and I like Quickpic much better than Gallery. I haven't used gallery in years. I put a quick end to G+ autosync.

I love Google+. I've met a lot of nice people there and I enjoy the experience. If it hadn't been for G+, I wouldn't have ever been exposed to the "Android crowd" and learned about the Nexus 5. There are other reasons I love G+ but I'm not going to hijack this thread to talk about that.

I didn't realize there was a separate G+ Photos app. When I got my N5, it had Gallery and Photos.

I really like Gallery because when you open it, everything is in folders. Unlike Photos where you have your camera shots expanded and then a folder for your folders. I do not like this at all. Plus you have a lot more options for tweaking images within Gallery. If they update Photos and make it to where you change the layout and add more tweaks, then I'm down.

Until then I will use Gallery and if they take it away I will just force install that ish and keep using it.

The Photos app is directly linked to G+, whereas Gallery is not. So in a way, the photos app IS G+ Photos.

I used to love and use quickpick until I got a phone with JellyBeans gallery because to me the quickpic ui is old and semi ugly. Plus I hated the fact that it showed every single photo in my phone, including things from apps and stuff.

I choose Photos. Mainly because of the UI.

I actually like how there is a folder for your folders because its kinda private. Plus, I've found many more filters in Photos than Gallery. And Photos has all the basic crop, rotate, etc. But I like change. Haha and I also hate G+ but unfortunately love the stuffs its tied to. And I've also always disliked gallery until they added some decent editing tools.

I prefer Gallery because it syncs my G+ albums (as does Photos, obviously), but the difference is in Gallery I can select those pictures and set them as full resolution backgrounds on my phone, whereas through Photos, I get a downsampled, pixelly version for my background. Also, I prefer the editing options in Gallery. It'd be great if they took the editing options available in both and combined them though.

Gallery is a better gallery, and you can view PhotoSpheres on it.

But as Photos is linked to G+ and has every photo I've taken in the last 5 years backed up on it and it's INCREDIBLE search function makes sorting them easy, I have that on my homescreen and Gallery one click away in a folder.

They really need to get the best bits from both and merge the apps. Waste of time having 2.
