I forgot to bring my data USB cable to work, so I can't flash it right now. Brought my crappy charging cable instead.

It said the update for other device would be "in the coming weeks".

Samsung and HTC said 15 days for their Google edition phones, so you can bet around that time if not sooner.

Note- it was 15 days from launch of KK. So 14 days would be this Thursday

But you could decompress the factory image and edit it not to wipe when flashed right?

I just extract the update zip and flash each .img file except userdata manually. Just did it for the LTE Nexus 7 actually.

Double check the updates before you download because nexus 4's have different names depending on their location. Mine device nickname is mako and that is not an option. There are only images for the Occam nexus 4 not the mako

Just downloaded it. Apparently KitKat removes your dialer. Is there an APK for that?


UPDATE: Go into the app drawer and look for the app called Phone and drag it back onto the home screen.

There's a new phone apk, so the old shortcut won't work

Google uses two codename for each device. Mako and occam are the two for the Nexus 4.

More specifically, "mako" refers to the phone's hardware, while "occam" is the software variant.

(The Galaxy Nexus is much more confusing - the family of devices (both CDMA and GSM) is "tuna", the GSM hardware is "maguro", the software is "yakju", but there are also a number of different regional variants of the software (takju, yakjux, etc).

I don't think exposed is compatible with 4.4 yet, although I haven't checked in a few days

For the transparent bar, just install the google experience launcher app from the nexus 5

The Xposed dev isn't getting his N5 till later on this month so he'll start working on porting stuff to 4.4 then apparently.

Hangouts does SMS/MMS. Its the default texting app on 4.4

If you don't like that option, you can always install an app from the market to handle SMS/MMS in a more traditional manner.

That article is full of crap. The old messing app is still present on 4.4. You can choose whether to use it or Hangouts.

It also makes it sounds like all devices will come with GEL. That is also false. Though you can install it if you want.

Technically GEL is contained within Google search. You just need to download an extra apk for your phone to properly recognize it.

It'll likely be available on the playstore for all devices running 4.1+ soon enough

8sms from the play store is great imo.

Can reply from the notification screen if you want too.

Just a note, for those waiting for the OTA....quite a few reports of people downloading the OTA and bricking their devices.

Got my ota update. Doesn't look a whole lot different. Just a little less holo.
