Root [Boost Mobile] Working ROMS/MODS/KERNELS/MODEMS/ECT for the Boost S3

i was having issue with signal and it would never stay on 4g on m.o.a.r rom and was running md4 baseband with latest boost prl. so i switch to mg2 baseband and prl 25016 and it like night and day better singal and 4g where holds longer and better 3g. not sure if this helps but figure i would add this to the mix

You were thinking of me biker. I was on lj7 on and off for a couple months. It did good here. I have noticed better speed with lj7 as far a speed tests. I just swapped to mg2 for the first time yesterday and it shows good signal but significantly less transfer speed. I'm gonna play with some prls and see if they yield any better speed for me or I'm reverting back to lj7.

I just finished RIPD and The Internship. Both were pretty good. I want to see end of the world as well. I reverted back to lj7 as well. It yields better results for me.

Bro, I've watched both of those and the RIPD was a lot better than I originally thought it would be. My wife and I both liked it. It was something different, that's for sure. lol

Those new movies.. Ender's Game, Riddick, Oblivion, and Elysium are pretty good too. Yes, I am a sci-fi guy. If you haven't watched Movie 43 yet, it's so freaking stupid that it's funny. :hahaha: There's a part in there where Hugh Jackman has a scrotum for his adam's apple. I swear dude, I laughed so hard that I had tears running down my cheeks. Flippin' hilarious! :rofl:

OK, getting back on topic here lol..... the lj7 seems to be doing pretty well so far. I'm using the 31104 prl with it. I'm also running the newest version of MOAR. I'm going to continue testing different combinations until I find the one that works best for me. I've been experiencing sporadic signal spikes where I'll have 4 bars and then it'll just drop off to almost nothing. Pretty sure the tower a few miles from the house would definitely benefit from a maintenance check.

What prl are u using?

I'm on the stock prl right now...33030 I think...and have pretty good signal. I'm gonna swap to 31104 as soon as I get to my laptop and try it for a couple of days.

31104 is doing great for me. That modem change really made a difference though. I'm glad you mentioned it awhile back.

Just a heads up for any of you that are running MOAR 6.1. The fix for the ink color on the ripple effect is located in post #11897. Just found and flashed it. Worked perfectly.

Okay, so now that I got things sorted with the voicemail, now I feel ready to actually try one of these alternate roms. But I am afraid of losing MMS and 4G, since at least here in AZ I have noticed that the 4G has started showing up, and I frequently do receive MMS messages from among my circle of friends.

That said, I never actually flashed a full rom before. So I know I have to worry about repairing the permissions or settings for boost mobile. Isn't there a way to make it carry over? what about root?

Almost all custom roms will have root unless it says it has no root... the process is very easy, you download the ROM that you want, you backup all of your stuff, you factory reset, and you flash the new rom with clockworkmod or twrp, and do the APN restore for your MMS which is not always necessary

Um, I have no idea what any of that you meant was. I kidna lost you at the factory reset part. I have twrp because of all the times that boost's customer care had forced me to wipe my phone with no effect to the voicemail problems that seemed to never go away. For some reason its one-button factory reset seemed to finally fix it.

I also have no idea what an APN is. Though given my luck, it will be necessary

Apn controls where your MMS is sent and received from... On twrp when you do a restore, you just flashed a copy of your very own custom rom (which is based on the stock rom)... it's just as easy and basically the same steps when you flash a custom rom, it's just that someone else pimped out the rom and made it run faster smoother and might have made it run off a newer version of android... the only difference in the steps is instead of taping restore you tap install.

It's I couple steps more than an adb one click, but yes it's very simple... about 10 minutes of your time including reading and downloading

The Touchwiz ROMs are easier to flash that the AOSP. Less steps. With Touchwiz all you basically need is the mms fix. Once it's been done you shouldn't need to do it again when flashing other Touchwiz ROMs because it will stick. AOSP is a whole different ballgame. I would stay away from them until you get the basics down 1st unless you just have to have an AOSP ROM. There are some really nice Touchwiz ROMs available to us.

I agree with Smith. With a little reading you'll find everything you need to know.

Just read the other thread where AOSP is what you want. Send me a PM if you need help with editing the updater-script. I'll be more than happy to whip one up for you if you're on the MG2 baseband. I recommend Dirty Unicorns or Vanilla Root Box. You're gonna have a choice too. MMS or 4g from what the others are saying. You can't have both with these ROMs yet unfortunately.

Haven't tried it yet. Was waiting for it to come out of beta.

LOL!!! My buddy is a diehard 49ers fan too. I went easy on him. It's not that I don't like the 49ers, it's just that I was there when the Panthers came to Charlotte and they've been my favorite team since. Gotta pull for my HOME TEAM bro.

Heck, we went to the playoffs our second year as a franchise. Been a bumpy road since though. Nice to see them on a streak.
