4.3 update Discussion and issues HERE !!!

Hi,

I have updated Jelly Bean 4.3 on my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and since I am facing battery drain issue. I have downloaded any applications which takes more battery but still phone is running slow and battery drained so much.

Secondly, I have tried to uninstall Hangouts to get GTalk back but still not finding any option to get it back.

Can someone please help me to on above issues and also is it possible to get Jelly Bean 4.1.2 back on my Galaxy Note 2.

Thanks and Regards,

Anurag

There have been reports of extensive ROM usage since the 4.3 update on other Samsung devices. That is causing the battery to drain faster.
I am not doing any updates until I've heard the bugs have been worked out of the general update, regardless of which device it's on.

My plan is to update via Kies, and if there are any major issues, then roll back, I think this option is possible.

Option to roll back to previous version through emergency firmware recovery can only occur if the update has FAILED or UNSUCCESSFUL. You are required to enter a code generated by the error if this occurs.

If the update is successfully installed, you cannot revert back to the previous firmware version. The only option would be to find the specific carrier ROM and flash it via ODIN if this is the case.

Don't know if I want it, I'll have to determine if I do when more people get the update. Right now it's a no go! How many times can I not accept the update? Anyone else with Note 2 update fear?
There was a time I couldn't wait for updates. My phone is setup just the way I like it. I honestly don't see a need for me to update it. Maybe I would feel differently if so many people weren't having so many problems/issues up to & including bricking phones.

Like you; it's a no go.
Yeah, simply go into Settings>About device>Software update

Then uncheck the box beside 'Auto update'. That will prevent the Note 2 from getting the Update automatically. And you get to choose (if ever) to update it on your own.

If it managed to download, just clear the cache after doing the above steps. You shouldn't be prompted after that (and should not be downloading).

Verizon doesn't have that option.
I don't have this option on my Sprint Note 2.

On Android Central, vpblaze wrote this:

Like I said, I very well could be the only one, as everything is personal preference.
While it is nice to have new features added, like Samsung Knox and other apps, I also feel that changing what isn't broken isn't necessary, or the option of having what was previous should at least still be there.
Changes that I don't like:
No more keyboard haptic feedback when typing. (This might actually still be there, but I have yet to find it, and I have gone in and out of pretty much every menu.)
Email app has gone to an all white theme. What was wrong with the dark theme? Dark theme is great for battery life and easy on the eyes!
I also get the vibe that a lot of the icons, widgets, apps, displays, menus are more bubbly. It almost feels like I am using a Tab 3 for Kids model. I don't need some picture of a stupid looking cartoon character as contact picture if that contact doesn't have a picture.
The video app is god awful! bright white background and grainy looking display of all the videos. The previous video app was great. The videos would be playing in the menus while you scrolled through looking for the one you wanted. It was neat.
Photo gallery is just as bad, big and bubbly.
Don't get me wrong, change is good. Getting rid of useful features not so much. Not allowing people to have the option of which feature they want is even worse.
It might be a bit extreme, but I compare the changes here to 4.3 from 4.1.2 to the change the iphone made to iOS7.
Yes I am bitter, but all I really want back is my damn keyboard vibrations. I am freaking terrible at typing on touchscreens, however with the slight vibrations whenever I pressed the keys, I found myself great on the Note 2....

i installed the update through my sd card and no complaints so far. give me a few days to see what the battery life is like. I like being able to move my apps onto my sd card to free up a lot of room on the internal storage. never understood why you couldn't do that before. It seems just a tad bit quicker and responsive. i personally like the update but i haven't really played with it much yet except to free up the internal storage.
Here is the link to download without waiting for Spint's sllooooow

Okay, I've decided to make the jump to 4.3 and will most likely do it on the weekend as that is when my device is not in much use and can afford the downtime. Provided nothing surprising shows up. Also give me time to prep the device for a clean install of 4.3.

My reason is that I ran out of device storage on the apps I do use and need as well as leisure (and it's a total PITA to constantly uninstall and reinstall apps). Updates are starting to bugger up because of device storage being unavailable. So the option to move apps to SD will be taking preference over other preferences.

I think (hope) I can live with the features either being moved, replaced or removed. Either way, I found a 4.1.2 ROM specific to my device. So if it gets too unbearable, I have a fall back plan in place too.

I'll let you know once I've updated and start playing with it. I'm hoping it won't trash my device or make me regret the decision.

When will android 4.3 update available in Nepal

Ok this type of post will get you nowhere on this forum, we don't know when updates will be released for which carriers etc....etc
You need to contact your carrier/provider for update information.
Alternatively you can follow sammobile on twitter and they will post as soon as the latest updates are released.

Okay, flashed 4.3 in the morning and left my phone alone for the better part of the day. Bare bones, a couple SMS, few minutes of talking and going through settings and stuff. The battery life seems okay. No adverse effects I can see. Everything is still running stock with no real 3rd party apps installed.

Starting off at 90%, 10h33m in and I'm down to 77%. Screen time 52m.

Have to get used to the new layout of the settings. Seems to me that they removed more features from the settings. Can't adjust S Pen Hand Writing recognition in the Samsung keyboard (Stroke/Complete recognition, recognition time, etc). No swipe with shortcuts along with a more secure lock screen option. S Voice doesn't have much options. In fact there's almost no options to it now. You are practically stuck with what it has for defaults with no chance of changing anything except enable/disable what's there.

S Note, well, the short time I played with it... some of my notes gave me errors... others worked fine. Not sure what the issue is here. But haven't really played with it that much to know. Will experiment more after setting up the Note 2 again.

I'll be performing a hard reset again and start setting up my phone again. It looks stable and hasn't done anything odd yet. But I've done a complete clean install. In fact I went a little overboard. Did a cache wipe and 3 hard resets in the Android Recovery Console. Downloaded and installed the update. Did another cache wipe and 3 hard resets again in the Android Recovery Console. That's got be the cleanest install I've ever performed.

So far it looks solid and good, BUT lacks some settings and features that are present with stock 4.1.2.

My first initial impression so far... I want 4.1.2 BACK! :bawling:

But, I'm going to have to give this a shot and stick with it as I really need the move to SD option.

I was stock 4.1.2, flashed thru kies and had no issues at all, thought the stock 4.3 ran extremely well, noticed better reception and sound quality :)
I'm thinking this also has to do with the carrier. I never had any issues with reception or call quality. I didn't notice any difference. But maybe you are more of an audiophile than me... :p

But it's still early experimentation I'm going through and haven't really tested it. I'm still setting up the phone and currently running a battery calibration test and see what the results yield.

On a side note, my Wi-Fi is acting really flaky since the 4.3 update. Constantly getting unstable network error messages. Will reboot my modem and router to see if that resolves the issue. Also having issues with the Play store because of it. Though internet browsing on the phone is okay.
