howdy peeps. so we've had our desire's for a few weeks now and was just wondering what the phones performance is like for you guys/gals? you've all put on apps that you want and music and videos etc, has this affected the phone in anyway? does it still run like it did out of the box or do you experience lag or other faults?? intrested what you have to say...

the only gripe that i have is it is sometimes slow to access the market and takes a few seconds to load the page when scrolling down and ive got a stutter when i access an app to read reviws..

other than that it still runs smooth, i've got music, videos, apps, widgets and voice to txt on mine and is easily the best phone ive ever had....

has anybody got a cache cleaner app, i can only find one for rooted phones?

Everything smooth and quick for me. The only place where I have noted an occasional wait of a second or two is going into the Applications settings menu to clean or uninstall an app, however that is not a regularly visited place so it is not a bother for me.

I occasionally have to restart the mobile network connection as it becomes unable to transfer data even though it is active, however I had this issue on my Symbian phone as well so I believe it is a network problem.

sometimes does nothing on internet - especially after downloading something new so needs a restart which clears it.

3g reception is not great and flicks on off all the time.

Apart from that, easily better than my old N900 which was a computer essentially. Everything just....works. Superb device. I have actually found a phone so much better than my superb n95 8gb and that one deserves respect.

I have added some awesome apps and currently sat listening to web radio on droidlive. Lovin it.

I'd like to be able to categorise apps as I have a lot now!

This device sticks 2 big fat fingers up at the icrap :D

Compared to my old G1 it is fantastic! Oh and Bonerp, this phone could be greater than Apple I agree, once they implement what I think are essential firmware upgrades such as the capability to store apps on SD(won't list them all as there is a thread dealing with this). Android is very close but if they don't keep up with the updates I'm afraid I for one will be looking elsewhere. But for now the Desire is friggin awesome!

I love my desire and i am so glad i made such a fuss and obsessed for weeks about getting one, internet is fab , the stock music player is great and displays all my art, the screen resolution is chrystal clear and although i have everything set to manual, the battery lasts 2 days before needing a charge. yes apps to sd would be fab and i am eagerly waiting for plastic hard cases in stunning designs to really make it mine :D other than that my desire has a easy life i do not use the web much but have piece if mind knowing its there when needed, my favourite app so far is critters,my own mobile database for all my dogs information, and wallpaper set and save

I'm surprised to hear you will look elsewhere....but I'm intrigued at what?? icrap is just that. Its dull, clinical and sold so that Apple dictate how they want you to use to - the sort of user like your nan. I almost pray for apple to lose ground. Maybe some speaker pods will start to manufacture adapters for other phones and not just iwhatsits - its about time! Its a fashion brand and thats it. Even a die hard iphone user opposite me at work is so impressed with my desire...and thats saying something!

And there really isn't anything else (at the mo) that is better! No Nokia comes even close - I had the n900 and it has major basic problems. Sony are great for pics and music - thats it. Motorola are in the dark ages, and brands such as samsung and LG are way behind.

This phone IS greater than any apple and I believe reviews accurately reflect this albeit at the present time....

What are you thinking as a replacement? Obviously we can all wait for the next best and greatest phone but Nokia don't get it right 1st, 2nd or 3rd time, and even iPhones had initial problems.

I've never had a preorder phone - one of the 1st to be released that works so darn well :D

I don't know what HTC/google are like for upgrades but certainly app upgrades are coming thick and fast. All looks good from where I am sitting. :)

oh, I'm not a fanboy - just really impressed.

Hey I used to think my Nokia 5800 was cool!! lol ok that was a few years ago and mobiles have moved on lots since then!! But this phone seriously does EVERYTHING well ........ I very nearly got an ithingy (soooo glad I read the reviews of this 1st! lol) I read about the daily battery charging so expected it, but seriously guys ..... a few seconds lag on android market? man, our pc's dont always load up microsoft widgets etc straight away!!! (ok, that example could have been better but ya get my drift!!) The only thing I am really looking forward to is saving apps to SD, even my 5800 did that!!

I was really tempted by the Samsung Wave, as long as the Bada platform pans out, the screen technology too looks (no pun intended) amazing, side by side the Wave makes the Desire screen look average (from a pic I saw somewhere?), I'm interested in the Symbian^3 too, the N8 looks promising. Palm OS was let down by the hardware, WM7 is also another that could be great, I figure you can't discount MS.
It's not that I'm thinking of leaving Android in the near future having signed up for another 2 years! I'm more than willing to give Google time to mature their platform and I'll make my mind up as I guess many others will do too. But since Android has only been around <2yrs, it's looking good!

some nice looking wm7 and android phones out later this summer too - a stunning looking slider phone.

I read some articles about the desire screen not being the full resolution being claimed, but honestly I can't grumble at the quality of image displayed.

My only issue with Amoleds is trying to see them in daylight!!!!!! grrrrr

Not your everyday thing but i noticed some sever lag yesterday while listening to an offline spotify album and messing around with wallpapers (creating from camera shots). Probably had several other things running at the same time so I'm not going to cry over it.

I can safely say this is the best phone i've ever had! very happy i waited, and waited, and waited....

Manage Applications lags when getting information about installed apps.
Marketplace lags when scrolling.
Phone lags up when installing updates or new software.
When getting Music Artist list from SDcard takes a few seconds.

I have noticed all these things since coming from the 3GS.

Obviously the iPhone lagged for a second or two when opening most apps anyway so the above points become mute when you switch between apps on the desire and they pop up instantly.
