Root [Boost Mobile] Working ROMS/MODS/KERNELS/MODEMS/ECT for the Boost S3

I'm holding off on 4.3 until a TRULY stable build is available for my favorite ROMs. Until then I am happily running the 4.1.2 TW ROM Wicked Sensations with absolutely no issues whatsoever. The guys over at XDA are working hard building their 4.3 versions. We just have to give them time.

It's a fact that when new version come out there are ALWAYS bugs. We just have to be patient until these bugs can be worked out.

If it gets annoying just modify the build.prop to make Boost think you're running the newest version. You can also go into the cache directory and delete the update which should stop the notification until the next time you reboot the phone.

Did the piggyback.zip give you 4g? To my knowledge it has not help anyone with boost mobile, but this file keeps getting mentioned.

When looking at the file it appears to be the same thing as apn backup/restore. I believe they are doing the same thing just 2 different ways of doing it.

yeah your right. I end up flashing the MOAR rom and the data internet was off. I used the piggyback.zip and it doesn't restore my internet. Now I'm going back to stock now. I might go and install the wicked rom later though

The piggyback.zip never worked i believe the one time it did was on a tw rom that had a bug and messed up the apns but I've never gotten it to fix anything wetbiker probably ends up removing it i have another apn zip that might work but I haven't been able to get it to work also but I've only tried one asop rom so far

Yeah I know I just use the short cut and use titanium backup and freeze the system update apk or the simplest one just delete it from the cache like you said lol

When flashing a 4.3 rom for the first time, I had 3G and 4G data. If I did not setup and use wifi, I would have it for several days. Then when I turn wifi on and move out of network range or turn wifi off, data does not come back, 3G or 4G. Somehow I believe wifi is breaking the data connection. Also, when I reboot, it also starts saying android.process has stopped unexpectly. This has happened on every 4.3 rom I have tried. Like I said earlier, I changed the apn in one of my earlier tests and still had the same issues. As long as I didn't change the apn, I could flash back to my previous backup of my 4.1 rom and I have no data issues whatsoever. Wifi turns off and data comes back on.

i see. yea haven't touch 4.3

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the pigback.zip was for AOSP ROMS. MOAR is a TW based rom.

The piggyback.zip was originally made for the Dandroid rom which is tw. I myself, along with a few others like Biker, tried it as a fix for other roms. As I recall biker, wasn't I one of...If not the first...to try it on aosp as a data fix?

Thanks.. even with this great thread some things get confusing at times.

A simple profile update should get your data working again on all the TW ROMs except for Dandroid. If it doesn't you could always try using the Boost xml from Alpineman's thread. It has restored data and MMS for me on the AOSP ROMs. I don't see why it shouldn't work for TW too.

No love in here? Lol...and here I thought I was giving the Boost and VM boys and girls done lovin' lol

Mad love for you in here bro and your hard work getting a rooted 4.3 stock ROM is greatly appreciated. If I ran rooted stock there is no doubt that I'd be running your ROM.

I've tested many of the ROMs out there and Wicked Sensations was a perfect fit for me. That's why I've chosen to wait on it to be updated. To be honest, I'm very happy with the 4.1.2 version I'm running right now. Unlike many of the members here, I'm in no hurry to update because my phone is set up just the way I want it and it's running flawlessly. :)

You're absolutely right bro. The piggyback.zip was originally made for users having data trouble with Dandroid. You had mentioned having luck with it on an AOSP ROM so I included it as a possible fix for those unable to get 4G. As far as I know bro, you were the 1st to try the piggyback.zip with AOSP.

Not having 4G in my area, I was unable to test it. I added it to the tutorials in the hope that it would work on some of the AOSP ROMs so that some would be able to get their 4G working.

As for all the Touchwiz ROMs besides Dandroid, a profile update does the trick to restore data. I'll go through the tutorials and make sure all the info is updated to reflect that the piggyback.zip is only needed for the Dandroid TW ROM and that is a possible fix for 4G on some AOSP ROMs and not a guaranteed fix.

It's hell not having 4G. LOL. :D

Edit: removing all info about the piggyback.zip except for the Dandroid ROM. ;)

EDIT: OK guys, I've removed just about everything pertaining to the piggyback.zip except for a short sentence regarding it and the Dandroid ROM.

If you will, please look over the tutorials. If you find something that I've missed or something you think will be helpful and needs to be added, please let me know and I'll get it taken care of ASAP. THANKS!!
:D

Did you try flashing the newest 4.3modem it could be that I've read on xda if your having data issues you can flash that mk5 modem and it should fix it or did you try a profile update

Actually someone on page 3 a guy mentioned having the same problem as you and here on page 4 he mentions how he fixed it his name is marcan 75

Actually even better CNexus says you should be able to flash his mk3 rom and get the hidden toggles and you might not have issues so if you want to try again later

Right now I am on a 4.1 rom. Can I flash the 4.3 modem while being on this rom or do I need to be on a 4.3 rom to do it? Also, its been a long time and a different device since I have flashed a modem, is there a tutorial that can walk me through it, and if so, where would I find that? My modem (baseband) is currently L710VPAMG2, where can I find this modem just in case I need to flash back to it? Last night, I flashed the boostapnxl via apn restore and backup on my current rom (4.1) and did a prl and profile update and had no data whatsoever. I then did a factory reset (via twrp) then flashed dirty unicorns (10-16 build) and tried again, no data. I flashed back to the 4.1 rom, changed my apn back to what I had before, did a reset again, reflashed dirty unicorns and then changed apn to boost xl and again had no data. Somehow, the boost xl is not working for me. I restored my 4.1 backup, changed the apn to my stock and did a prl and profile update and I again had data on this rom. One thing I was wondering about, in my 4.1 rom, under system update, I can update my prl and profile but in the dirty unicorns rom, I couldn't find anywhere to update prl and profile, did I just miss it or is it not available in this rom?

What is phils recovery?? I am using twrps latest 2.6.3.0

Modem is independent of Android build number. Here are the links for VM/Boost modems as well as the Sprint modems (work just fine on VM, so should work on Boost as far as I know):
[MODEM][FLASHABLE] MK3 Sprint Modem - xda-developers for newest Sprint MK3 modem
[MODEM][FLASHABLE] MK5 Virgin Mobile/Boost Modem - xda-developers for newest VM/Boost MK5 modem
[MODEM][JB 4.1.2][cwm][zip][md7][mg2] - xda-developers for previous VM/Boost modems MD7 and MG2
[Modem/Baseband] Sprint GS3 Flashable Radios LEN|LF9|LG2|LG8|LI3|LJ7|MB1|MC3|MD4 - xda-developers for all previous Sprint modems

I keep all these in a folder on my sd card along with my other custom ROM files so that I can easily change on the fly since these are all .zip files to flash from recovery.

As far as recoveries besides TWRP (which is my favorite), Philz Touch has become a new favorite, it is based on CWM but extremely customizable with TWRP features thrown into the mix.

Hope this helps!

Ok, I flashed the mk5 modem, did a backup, did factory reset, and flashed the dirty unicorns rom, rebooted, let it settle, then rebooted into recovery, flashed gapps then rebooted and this time upon reboot, I get a error that says android.process has stopped unexpectly or to that effect, maybe I'm using the wrong gapps??? Still don't have data. This is the gapps I downloaded a while back from the dirtyunicorns xda thread. Can anyone tell me what gapps their using with this rom?? and where I can find it?? Thanks

If your trying to get data on a asop rom like du it's a tutorial on here that works you just won't get 4glte

I thought you where trying to get the tw rom 4.3 up and running that's why I was telling you this du and other asop roms are very flaky with our phones plus they have bugs I haven't been able to get 4g again myself on a asop rom i did it once by manually configuring it on a cm10.2 build but I would just advise you to stay away from asop roms until we get a developer to try and help us I've reached out and junkie2100 gave me a zip that may or may not work I've been unsuccessful so I would just wait it out because flashing a different modem or changing recoveries doesn't matter our apns need to be fixed to get 4g so unless you want to try and manually configure it or flash the zip I posted I'd leave it alone because it's still no guarantee that you'll get 4g but if you follow the tutorial on the first page you'll get data
