Help The "Battery Issue" and replacement

Glad to see that the incredible battery drain isn't my imagination, but rather the defect to which Samsung has admitted (we flunked the spin test). Problem is, the battery has to be sent out to Samsung, examined, and if declared defective, a replacement will be mailed back. Great - so I have no use of the phone for that period of time ... NOT!

Looking for a genuine-replacement-part, which Samsung, Amazon, etc. sell for $40. Lots of bargains on e-bay for <$20, purported genuine -- but my question is

"Would you buy one"? Or pay the $40 to buy from a legitimate dealer?

I've bought batteries from Hyperion and haven't been disappointed. I've heard a few other Amazon partners that people have had good results with.

Good point. I believe NFC is in the battery, so if NFC is important to you, the proper battery is important.

BTW, I can't believe that is Samsung's policy on a product they know is defective. What they should do is allow you to buy a new one and then credit your purchase when they get the old one back.

Oh, boy - don't even get me started on that! I went through the tech dept, the sales dept and warranty service and they did not bend on this. Just ludicrous - when I had an issue with phones in the past, they always sent me a replacement together with labels for me to mail in the defective part. For a $%& battery which is known to be defective, we're expected to send the battery to them and wait for a 10-day turnaround time. There are no local options.

So after reading through a lot of comments on Amazon about all the counterfeits (even for what appear to be legitimate product), I weenied out and bought a Samsung battery w/charger on Shop-android - it was marked down from $49.99 to $39.99 and an addl 25% discount brought it to under $30. Hopefully this battery will last until then.

At least this will be a heads-up for anyone else who suspects they have this problem - be prepared for a wait for a replacement.

You're very fortunate to have a local service ctr - I was told they're mainly in TX (here in the US) - nothing up in my area. IT seems as if this has been more a problem in Europe.

It seems like I remember also reading somewhere that some of the carriers were offering to replace bad batteries (if it's a carrier branded phone). Sprint comes to mind as one of them, but I cannot be 100% certain. I recommend walking into your local carrier's store and talking directly to a store manager.

Actually, the first contact I made was to my local US Cell store. The tech dept actually said they would be happy to replace the battery gratis but did not have any available that were not packaged with a phone.

I also asked Samsung's sales dept about going to one of the local Best Buy Samsung Kiosks to expedite the process or get a replacement -- nope. Frustrating!

Oh, ETA that I mentioned to the US Cell tech that I'd done the "spin test", and he laughed, telling me that he does the spin all the time when he suspects a bad battery.
