Can an ISO file be copied to a Linux desktop

Because my ISP's reception at home is very slow and flakey, I went to the public library to download an ISO file to try a different Linux distribution for my desktop. The library has fiber and the download to my HTC One x+ was speedy. However, when I tried to copy the 1.2 GB file to my Ubuntu 12.04 desktop through a USB cable, it would not go through.

Can it be done, and if so, how?

It can be done. Why it isn't working will determine how. Since the file is under 4GB, it's not due to the file being larger than your SD card can handle. Go back to the site and download the MD5 file for the iso (or just copy the number if it's shown). Install an MD5 calculation app. Calculate the MD5 of the iso file and see if it matches the number you downloaded. If it doesn't, you have a bad download. (The file can claim to be 1.2GB, but actually be 0 in length - and that can't be copied.)

Do you have at least 2.4GB free space where you're trying to copy the file?

Maybe others can think of other things.

Thank you for your response. I became frustrated and downloaded the same 1.2 GB ISO at home to my desktop. As usual, I did an MD5 check before burning it to a DVD and it passed. Incidentally, my download at home during less busy night hours took about 3-1/2 hours vs. around fifteen minutes at the fibre equipped library. I have loads of free space available on my HD on the desktop.
