Question about Wi-Fi

Alright, I am a little confused. I thought Wi-Fi powered the normal Browser that we use on the Hero. I then go to my settings to see that Wi-Fi is off? So I turn it on and turn on linksys (or whatever it says). Linksys(whatever) is a browser right? This is my first phone like this and I haven't had an iPod touch so I don't know much. I would really like someone to take the time and explain this to me (lol). Thank you. Also, I couldn't find the linksys browser (if its a browser) so please help.

wow... where to begin......

Ok. linksys isnt a browser. Linksys is your router which connects your phone to the internet wirelessly. Wifi is what you use to connect to your linksys router.

Browser is the program or software your phone uses to show you the internet. 3g, or EV as the icon on your phone will say, is the wireless internet your phone usually uses. It communicates will a cell tower miles away. WiFi is what you can use if you're near an unlocked wireless router, or if you have the access code. WiFi means your phone is communicating at a much shorter distance, using less battery. WiFi will usually be faster than 3g too since it's likely pulling off a broadband landline. WiFi is only effective within 30 or so feet of the router it's using though.

So when Wi-Fi is on, the Browser will be faster? When I say Browser I mean the actual internet.. as its called Browser on the phone instead of like .. Safari for the iPhone. I didn't know if I was being clear enough :p.

There are other Android browsers you can get from the Market for your phone too. Opera and Steel are two of them I think, you can go to Market and search " browser " there are 4-5 different ones you can use.

Calvin... There are two ways that your browser can access the internet:

1. Wi-fi - (This is like using the fast lane)
2. Mobile 3g network (This is like using the slow lane)

They both take you to the same places but wi-fi is quicker and generally better if it is available. Keep your wi-fi on (unless you are trying to conserve the battery) The phone will auto-detect wi-fi and give you the option to detect. If there is no signal available, then the phone will use the mobile network to connect your browser to the internet. Another benefit to using wi-fi is the ability to talk and browse at the same time.

Its all the same browser. Wifi is just a faster way to connect to it if a wifi connection is available. Try googling "wifi for dummies." I think you fit that well.

Oh, your internet insults really hurt me. Im thinking about suicide now.

Ill be in the paper tommarow.

Anyways. Thank you guys for being serious and helping me in my time of need and my time of being a noob :(. I think I understand it now.
