Samsung Galaxy Mega is officially released (11/25)

At the metro store for almost a hour and half .

I get the phone and they activate it blah blah blah. Then the girl rings it up and it rang up as $499.

I said that's a mistake..it's $399 for upgrade and $349 for new activation.

Owner comes out (nice guy) and says no ,deals are only for new activation . I say no and to check website..still coming up in their system as $499.

Owner calls metro and the guy said he would find out and call back . Guy calls owner back and they also say no it's $499.

So I say cancel it and to get my connect back up in service.

During this whole fiasco people are coming in and I had to wait and wait and wait. I didn't mind as I had some free time to kill.

As I'm waiting Metro calls the owner back and said to give it to me for $399, but owner was concerned that his computer was still ringing up $499 and didn't want to lose $100.

Bottom line is I got it for $399 and don't know if metros website is wrong or their system in the stores is wrong.

The same girl from yesterday rang it up and also gave me the gel case with screen protector. The girl said I saved $21 on the case . I didn't want to push the headphones that were promised to me ..I just wanted to get out of there.

So I test phone in store and can call out but I cannot receive calls.

We check settings blah blah blah and it still doesn't work. They call metro and metro says to wait 2 hours, if not to revove SIM card reboot and try again.

Well it's been over a hour now and still can't recieve calls.

Any ideas why I can't recieve calls ?

Thanks

chances are they gave you the wrong sim.

on other phones you break out at the perforated slots and then insert, with the mega you just stick the whole card in :p

anyways sounds like they didnt actually activate it, i would dial *228

OK..it's working..started a few minutes ago when I got a text from metro saying my bill will now be $70...grrrrrrr

I have the $60 plan. Use to pay $65 for insurance but stopped it 2 months ago.

Now I have to call them..so frustrating .

.....

One of the most common reasons why a bill is higher than it normally should be is because a person addsa new feature onto his/her account (i.e insurance) MetroPCS does not prorate any charges for a feature. What does this mean? If you upgraded your phone on the 29th and your bill cycle ends on the 1st, MetroPCS will still charge you the full amount for the feature from the 29th to the 1st.

As far as the price is concerned, people will always use technology as an excuse for charging an item higher or lower. Bottom line on the Mega is that its MSRP is $499. It currently has an instant $100 in store instant rebate for new or existing customers. New customers that activate a new to metropcs number will qualify for an additional $50 in store instant rebate. Anyone or any store that tells you any differently is just full of it.

I guess they did try to screw me out of $100 then..I didn't see their system where they said it showed up as $499 but they did call someone who did call back and said give it to me for $399. It was just frustrating and no matter how many times I said the $100 instant rebate is also for existing customers.

They also said no refund blah blah blah and the 60 minute return only applies to new accounts. I swear I read on metropcs that only applies to existing customers who upgrade online not in store.

Then I asked about the warranty for the phone itself with samsung...blah blah blah. Said they would give me a loaner until samsung fixes my phone.

I never dealt with a metro store other than paying bill once or twice..usually pay online.. I left verizon and bought the indulge at bestbuy. That phone croaked and had the $5 insurance. Called up and they sent me the connect. So this is my first time actually buying a phone from a metro store.

So I called metropcs about the text I recieved about my next bill being $70 instead of $60. Lady said the store added insurance and that it cost an additional 5 bucks to activate it. WTF ..$5 bucks to activate it ..that's some crap right there !

That didn't happen with the indulge when I called to activate it.

Anyway..phone is running great..hasn't rebooted at all and signal is steady . It's really not that big once you hold it for a while and easy to grip ,

Only bad thing I can find so far is the volume and power buttons. Whoever designed this didn't really try using them in real life scenarios.

With a big phone like this you have to grip it (easy with one hand )when pressing either vol or power . Thing is the vol and the power are directly across from each other. So if I grip it with one hand to lower or higher vol you can shut it off very easy with your grip on other side ,being you have you hand wrapped around both sides. Power button should be in a higher location instead of directly across.

Awww sorry for all your troubles; instant rebate, extra activation cost, no signal etc etc..

Hope the phone is well worth the money and all the trouble you went through.

Enjoy the phone and let us know anything else you find :)

Lmao the buttons were in the same place when you tested it in the store. That's what you wanted so quit complaining. They only thing that kept me from getting it is that my s4 had better specs

LMAO..yes they were in the same spot..LOL

But I didn't get to lift it up and hold it like real life usage much ,because it was on a freaking tight leash.

it's not a big deal at all. Just posting what I find as I mess with it.

I'm very happy !:p

Hey Thanks !

Yeah..seemed like a chore just to get a phone, but I'm very happy with it. Searching and testing all features to see if anythhing is buggy ,but so far
everything seems to be working.

Watched Netflix and no buffering :D

I really love the big screen .

I average anywhere from 15-20 Mbps Down and about 13-18 Mbps up.

Crazy fast compared to my Connect.

I try never to go to the stores unless I have no other choice. All new upgrades I will buy online, its much easier and saves you a few bucks.

How's battery of that phone, screen time in particular.

You know, any phone at metro's, even one of the cheapest, would be faster than connect.

I got the mega now, and its a great phone. people keep talking about low specs. Let me tell you, its fast. I'm very happy with it. The screen is beautiful. My only complaint is there's not much dev support for it yet. Im not much of a fan of touchwiz. I installed another launcher.

Lol it was (relatively) easy to collect money for LG Motion / Spirit and donate it to Dev. But not for newly launched $400+ worth phones :)

I am still stuck with Spirit at this point but I'd likd to jump to Mega..

Hope the community gets bigger soon.

Big difference though, is the community size and phone price. motion was dirt cheap from the get go, and the spirit was competitively priced. The s3 was a fairly expensive phone but thanks to the larger community and very generous people they were still able to raise up the money needed for it. im sure soon enough you guys will have stuff, no need to worry and rush things.

Shabby you are like our resident Samsung master is there anything about it that screams familiar to you? And unrelated but do you think bliss Loki hack could be ported to the Sony experia TL?

the mega is basically the s3 stretched out. as soon as someone on tmobile gets working on it properly cm should fall in place with the jf/d2 kernel.

as for loki whether or not it works is a whole nother story. bliss is pretty burned out, he wa sin irc yesterday complaining about how many requests there was to loki and how useless it is for most people. so many devices are supported by loki now and will never even see a rom. but people freak out about having a locked bootloader and bug him about it all causing the only guy who can do it and will do it, to get annoyed. most people ask him via opening an issue here, https://github.com/djrbliss/loki , if he can do it or not ive no idea.

I figured it was just that stretched out s3. As for the Loki I can understand which is why I asked you about it. you know how it works and ported to us on the motion and spirit. But unless you had the device in hand there really no way to know and Dan needs to take a break seriously. So much done simply by him. My phone boot loader would be locked if it wasn't for him and his motorchopper

the only person who has ever added devices to loki is and was dan, i merely asked for those 2 devices early on when loki first went lg compatible. loki is FAR beyond my level, im pretty confident there is only a handful of people on this site who are even aware of how it works, let alone porting it to other devices.

hey SHabby, you and I actually agree on something. When i was in the store playign with the s3, s4, Mega and then went back to the s3. My first thought was wow the Mega feels just like S3 with a large screen. It's like someone took a S3 threw it on train tracks and let it get flattened out like they use to do with pennies when i was a kid. So far I'm loving the Mega, jsut waiting around from some good dev support. Right now everything is for the other versions I'm guessing they are the international.

I'll admit I DNS about no developin'

But I bet you shouldn't hold your breath waitin' for it for your new Phablet.

They won't sell enough of them to make it worth the Developers time.

Get used to it locked up tight, I bet that's how it stays.

Its a gsm Samsung device, that is most likely a stretched out s3. It is like half way there. But I get where you are coming from there are no promises of dev work for any device.. And that is the truth.

nah, nothing that serious. best shot is someone from tmobile grabbing one and getting to work on it all. it will probably take time like the motion, but it will happen sooner or later.
