LIST OF KERNELS WORKING WITH MK5
(in progress)

Please share the following info about kernels you have tested:

1. Build you tested on (MK5)
2. Which version of MK5 (OTA or ROM by jdsingle76?)
2. Bootloader you are using (Knox or Knox-free made by jdsingle76?)
3. Recovery you are using
4. Link to kernel

I decided to start this thread so the BRAVE users who have tried custom kernels such as the TW-based kernels, DKP kernels, etc etc.. can post their results.

Please feel free to share your success stories as well as your epic failures.

Also, please post whether you are using the MK5 OTA update WITH Knox or the MK5 rom made by jdsingle76 because I am curious to know whether the Knox bootloader is allowing custom kernels at this point.

Eventually, this will turn into a kernel repository of working kernels for our build (both knox and knox-free versions) and may possibly turn into a stickied guide.

I am not encouraging anyone to go out and carelessly flash kernels but only to share your experience if you decide to be bravely try one out. I will not be responsible if you brick your phone by trying any of the kernels out there.

KERNELS TESTED WORKING ON MK5 WITHOUT KNOX BOOTLOADER:

DKP TW 4.3 installed with Philz Recovery

I did the same thing I 'm still trying to figure out why the bootloader didn't flash !!!

Just be happy and give thanks for the miracle that has graciously been bestowed upon thee

:p

Are you sure it doesn't even say 0x0?
The Knox bootloader should add two new lines to the screen when in download mode.

Yes no 0x anywhere!

Just to clarify, download mode=volume DOWN+home key+power button; recovery mode volume UP+home key+power button. Just mentioning it because you want to be 1000% (yes, 1000) certain that Knox is not live on your phone, and plenty of users have confused download mode with recovery mode from what I have seen in other forums.

No download mode is what you go into for odin .

Yes, I am aware, and it is also the ONLY place you will see any Knox info; your response makes me 99.9% sure you have been in recovery mode and NOT download mode. Just for grins, do me a favor and boot into download mode (NOT recovery) and confirm. I hope I'm wrong and we just aren't on the same page communication-wise my friend, but much better to be safe than sorry!

So far i've ran:
1. MK5 by jdsingle76 deodexed
2. Bootloader Knox-free jdsingle76 mk5 modem / firmware
3. philz advanced cwm 6.00.8
4. dkp TW 4.3

1. Cyanogenmod 10.2 Stable
2. Bootloader Knox-free jdsingle76 mk5 modem / firmware
3. philz advanced cwm 6.00.8
4. dkp aosp 4.3

There's a newer version of dkp's 4.3 TW kernel that fixes motions and SELinux app problems, but the 12/2 build worked for me other than motions.

I couldn't get ktoonsez kt747 kernel versions to boot CM10.2 or TW 4.1.2 MG2 rooted for me, it would flash but just hang on boot. Might just be me though

Every version of ktoonsez KT747 I've tried has done that to me as well, although sometimes it does manage to install his KTweaker app. I absolutely love dkp kernel on custom 4.3.x, it is really awesome. Tried his testing build for 4.4 the other day but had a lot of issues with it, which he acknowledged; he is mainly focused on TW 4.3 until Cyanogen team starts releasing their official CM 11, which actually happened today for a handful of devices like the Nexus line.

Cool glad to know it wasn't just me with kt kernel :D. Yeah I played around with the TW 4.3 and aosp 4.3 kernel and undervolted it across the board by 50 mv and it was rock solid for the couple days I used both. I'm running cm11 stock now just to see what its like.

I do -75 across the board and freelunch/zen combo, definitely no overclocking when using custom 4.3.x and dkp kernel.

So DKP 4.3 works with the Knox free MK5. I'm hoping it will work on MK5 with Knox bootloader.

I'll be editing the OP with a list as we gather info! :)

yeah dkp seems to be safe a bet, not sure how knox reacts with kernel modification if at all.

I think I have even undervolted by -100 safely with dkp, but didn't leave it at that for long enough to be sure it was stable. The thing to remember about kernel settings is to not check the "Apply at Boot" setting unless you are sure your settings are stable first otherwise you will probably fail to boot. There is a second zip file in the dkp thread OP that is good to keep on your SD card, it allows you to change your minimum voltage via recovery if you undervolt too low and then the phone doesn't have enough power to boot properly. Other kernels, can't remember if dkp is included, offer a "grace period" where they will restore defaults if bootloops are detected due to kernel settings.
